Default Got Garden?

Made mine today.

Started with this...

And ended up with this...

So far Ive got two jalapenos, one fajita bell, one cayenne, cilantro, one jumbo jalapeno and about 50-60 texas sweet white onions. Pops is picking up cuccumbers & tomatoes, so thatll leave about one row left to fill up with whatever.

So who else has a garden??

Nice start on your garden, there is definatley something very cool about growing your own food.I have been wanting to do this for a few years but just can't seem to find the time. Are you planning on putting a fence around it to keep the deer out?I have heard that a radio left on is enough to keep them away.I can just imagine going out to the garden on a warm summer evening and picking some fresh veggies to make a salad, yum!

My girlfriend and I have got a start on hers. Got about half the beds done (Im a rancher so she has all the manure she needs). About 2 more pickup loads and then we till it all in. She has her shoots started in the house, just have to let it warm up some more here and then it in the ground.

looks like you have a good start there, i cant keep one house plant alive yet alone a whole garden lol. i just go out to the farm my dad manages with my truck, pull under the harvester and fill it up. onions, potato's, peas, pinto beans, green peppers and whatever else they grow.

If youll notice the box with a target sheet on it to the left of the garden in the pics, thats what Ive been practicing on with the .22 pellet rifle.

The view from the garage...

There will be deer and rabbits and squirrels that Im not there for but what is one to do. We'll see how things go. Im not too worried. Thinking of putting a stake for the pooch out near the garden to help keep critters away.

That will do it. Won't the pooch chase the critters away anyway? I have found cats will "Do Work" with gophers and squirrels.

Basil We usually have one row dedicated just for basil. Nothing like it fresh from the garden. If you prune it correctly from the beginning, you end up with tons of it.

We haven't had a garden the past 2 summers. I think I might fire up the rotor-tiller this weekend.

My wife grows tons of basil. She also grows a lot of rosemary, thyme, & sage, then dries it all. We have homegrown herbs year round. It's so much better than store bought.

Because nothing tastes better than a garden flavored of cat piss and turds.

I wouldn't mind a garden but there are two issues. I don't really have the room and about all I'm good at growing is grass.

What is the right way to prune it? My basil is just starting and I want to make sure I do it right

As the plant grows, new shoots start between the leaves and the main trunk. Snip the main trunk just above the new shoots. This encourages the plant to turn those shoots into two new trunks. From there it just keeps multiplying. Keep trimming the new trunks above the new shoots, and your one trunk plant turns into a multi-limbed tree. We've had basil plants chock full of leaves and growing faster than we can pick it. At the end of the summer, we turn whatever is left into pesto, or freeze it in ice-cube trays.

With all that land you should haul in rocks and harvest crawling courses

Tatter planter here!!!! Real easy to grow. Did peppers last year and tobacco worms ate all of them.

Picture is for referance only. Not my actual picture.

So this was her at the peak this year (same as above). Cabbage and cilantro died out, cuccumbers, tomatoes and squash did fair, and the peppers did fantastic. They are still producing.
