Default Any Appliance guys???

I've got a stinky GE Washing-Machine. It is funky if not in-cycle. Not comming from the discharge-hose or drain. About 6-months old. If it sits for an hour empty and you lift the lid..DAMN!! There's got to be some funk-water standing in there somewhere. No leaks, nothing on the floor.

Is it one of the new HE washers? My folks have one of them and have had similar issues.

Keep the door open when not in use, it lets things evaporate. Wipe down the door seal with watered down bleach. Run two really hot cycles with bleach through it.

For future appliance repair reference, this website is helpful:
Appliance Repair Forums

The site owner sells parts to fix appliances. He's damn good at helping fix and will even take back an electrical part that he recommended if you install it and it didnt fix the problem.

Rob, I'm on a Septic-Tank System. Sorta scared to run too much bleach, it may up-set the "bugs". But I will try a Double-Hot run or two.

Good info. This machine replaced a High-Zoot Kemore that has a bad Control-Board, Error-Code, It's still sitting in the garage, I was in need of a machine ASAP and went to Home-Depot and bought this one. I'll check him out as I would like to fix the other matching one.

That's what my folks ended up doing. They also pull the detergent/fabric softner tray out of it and clean it as well. Also, don't leave wet clothes sitting in it.

Just about anything that kills mildew will get the smell out. If you can't use bleach with your septic system another cleaner that's septic safe will work too.

I work at Lowes and deliver appliances daily. There's a cleaner tablet called AFFRESH, you should run a full cycle once a month with this to clean the washer. Always leave the lid open so it airs out and let's the washer vent. With the seal closed it does not do this.
