This is part of Oregon's welfare program, put people to work pumping gas. And, this is the biggest reason why I hate driving through the state. For some reason, a person that sees 100 gas caps a day is lost on the concept of the tethered gas cap, and always rip the tether out of the tank and put the cap on the roof of the car. To me, this is like a prostitute that doesn't understand the concept of the penis...

Sadly, this law change is only in effect in county's with less that 40,000 people. I guess I will have to plan my fill-ups better.

Seriously. When I had the unfortunate circumstance of finding myself in New Jersey from time to time, I always had to remember to fill up in NY for $.30/gal MORE because I refuse to let some knuckle dragger touch my car. The last time I drove one of my cars in NJ was when I had my Corvette. By the end of that weekend, my in-laws-to-be were convinced that I was nuts. I paid more to pump my own gas in NY, then drove to a wedding reception in NJ and caused an uproar because I wouldn't let the dude at the restaurant valet park my car.

Now whenever we're down there, we just take my wife's car.

Saw a news story about the couple that was in that car, just out of view of the camera they got traction were able to drive up a road, getting out of the way of the mud slide.
