They are rated for 30 or 35a, but I have seen deans pushed a lot harder than that in planes. Just pull out a temp gauge and see if they get hot. If your wires are big enough it should sink the heat away.

Thanks! So, my worst nightmare....wiring. Well second worse, cause the worst would be to see this thing on fire.

Ok I so need to build one of these. My stupid grass grows too fast and my back hurts too much to mow often. I'd prolly have the motor/blade system hang on a gimbal that rides on wheels located right at the edge of the cuttin circle to get rid of the high/Low cut spot issue. Love it my friend! |

Ran it for about 20 minutes with the rotor going full throttle and the highest temp afterward was the rotor motor at 125 degrees F. Batteries haven't died yet, but I lost my string when I went around a metal post (got a little too close). I took some video and will post it once I figure out how. The pics below show the before and after of the last 5 minutes of my test, when I went inside to escape the bugs. Did the flat are in 4 minutes, then tackled the hill that I never cut, to stress test it. That is where I found a metal boundary marker and ended my session. I'll get some more string tomorrow and see how long these batteries last. I think I will have to wait to do my front yard until I get the dual rotor setup working. The front yard is about 3/4 acre of hill that is as steep as the hill in my back yard show in the pics below (the whole reason for this project). To Do list: -Cut the rotor shaft down -Build something around the entire electronics or maybe just wrap it in syran wrap before I run it. -Make guards for the front knuckles to keep grass from wrapping around the shafts (didn't stop progress, but can't be good for the drive motors) -Future - dual rotor heads. Don't think I need any more power, just need to figure out how to drive two rotatory heads with one motor.

Well, didn't realize it would turn out vertical, but maybe this will hold you over until I can get the other ones published. Turn up the sound; I was filming/driving from indoors. Radio Controlled Lawn Mower / Weed Eater - YouTube Last edited by SVEN; 06-23-2012 at 08:51 PM. |

A light weight deck (easiest way to keep the cut grass at bay), more width, and some swing away mulching blades and I think you've got a winner...just when I didn't need any more personal projects Very nice my friend! |

I'd buy a chassis if it was being made. That's cool, hate to get a finger into those blades though. |

Guess I could put together a DIY type kit w/ the motor mounts, skidplates, and hardware. There's really not that much fabrication other than those things. Nother vid.... |
