Default R/C Lawn Mower/Weedeater Build

I thought I had posted this up a couple months ago, but couldn't find it.

Anyways, the motor showed up yesterday, so progress can continue.

Using my Super as a base for now. I will eventually get some dedicated axles for it, but for now it is a pretty easy swap b/t the super chassis and this thing.

The running gear will be my Supers electronics:
2 BRXL's
4 cell Lipo
Holmes Motors
Futaba 4PL

The weedeater drive system:
Turnigy Rotomax 50cc Size Outrunner
TURNIGY K-Force 120A-HV OPTO 5-12S Brushless ESC
10 Cell Lipo

Need to build:
Motor mount
Rotary head to hold string

Very cool.. That motor should put a hurtin' on weeds and small children if your not careful..

Maybe skip the string and use swing away steel blades instead for durability and entertainment

As soon as you develop one with a 54" or bigger deck let me know.

Talk about sitting down on the job.

I built a 6WD 4WS E-Maxx (3 locked diffs, 4 motors, two trannys, & 40 series Big Joe tires) a while back, got bored with it, and sold it to my buddy. He put tire chains on it and servo controlled snowplow. He then made money by clearing peoples sidewalks with it!

Coming together nicely.

Need to swap out the 5 slot motors on the axles for something on the other end of the pocket book, install the other two cutting strands, wire up the ESC for the Rotary motor, and then wait for the Powa! to arrive (hopefully tomorrow ).

Subscribed! What kind of wheelspeed you want? I have some sealed can 500kv motors here that would be decent on 4s. You want slow and controlled, should be perfect. Otherwise I have a ton of parts that we could build up a cheap 55t 540 with. Used stuff, low grade magnets, etc.. I have more 55t machine wound armatures than I know what to do with.

Totally awesome build. I may need to copy this on a slightly larger scale for my yard. I have some bigass outrunners here already.

Ive thought about this too. I have some low lying trees that flower and attract bees. Im allergic, so that creates a problem when I go to mow. Something like this would be perfect for me to trim underneith the trees.

very cool

but what are you going to do about divets and molehill type "deformations" in your yard, wont that mow uneven when only one tire hits one and what about when the truck is centered over a hill?

Thanks John, I've got some older 35t HH motors ready to go in. But if those get too hot on the 4 cell, I will let you know on the 55t arms. Speed will be determined by how strenuous it is on the esc/outrunner to cut grass at max speed with the 35t's. If it cuts like butter, I'll need (ok, want) to go faster.

I really want to get this thing tested, with future plans being a wider 'deck'. Basically use a single motor to drive two heads or two motors if need be.

Thanks, I'm currently just getting the thing thrown together for a shakedown test. If it needs suspension, I will certainly do it. It would be pretty easy to do given the function of the axles driving it .

Anybody know the max voltage or current a Dean's Ultra Plug is capable of handling?

Got the ESC wired up thanks to some 6.5mm bullet plugs from Holmes Hobbies (came in super fast as always). I accidentally picked up 3 packs thinking they had 1 pair per pack, but spares are always good to have and I may use them as the battery plugs if Dean's won't cut it.

Still waiting on my cheapo test batteries from hobbyking.

I had to take a look at the instructions for the ESC to figure out what was going on with the extra extension on the Red battery wire. Pretty cool feature (high voltage guys are probably thinking it's nothing special), but it allows the initial 'spark' to dissipate before plugging in the battery.

Still enjoying the Jig's Up 3rd hand. Comes in handy .
