$110 from Lowes, but $66 of that was for the preformed top.

Is there a Habitat For Humanity Re-Store near you? If so you probably could have got a used top like that for $5-$10.

I'm not quite done yet...but here is the bench thus far...

7'L x 30"W x 36"H

2x4 frame, 5/8 mdf top and bottom shelf, 1/4 particle board for containing whatever crap gets shoved underneath.

18" shelf underneath

Using up all of my scrap plywood to make the 20x15x8 drawers. Still have one more to go.

I did have the belt sander and bandsaw on a 18x24 tool cart, and no room for the drill press so it was being stored in the attic. Now they are all in the same place with lots of room to use them. The bench grinder will get bolted down there as well.

Got some crap hanging off the backside for now, still need to hang more pegboard. I also installed a 4 gang outlet for power (may add a second).

Total cost for lumber, electrical, and drawer sliders - $120

nothing fancy just 3/4" thick pine board up to 1"x12", then premade panels for anything wider then 12"....made a wall light sconce from some 3/4" birch plywood scraps I had and screwed the lamp base to it, I hate bedside night tables....

a shelf for my side of the bed for my alarm clock to sit....

needed some storage for half my spices....

napkin holder that holds more then the store crap....

had to make a home for the 32" tv in my bedroom....

needed a shelf for some kitchen storage to fit the corner....

tv stand to hold all electronic's....

PC desk that holds all in one printer and made with a small students desk that's soon to lose to a fire....

like I said nothing special and unstained, but fits what I need them to do....

Also, the more dust free the area is the better. I ended up making a tent out of plastic sheeting to keep it covered after the applications.

I got this from Lowes...I think the gallon kit was about $80 and goes a looooong way. I still have about 3/4 of a gallon left.

The finished surface. The dimple is a teeny tiny spec of dust that settled on it while it was still wet.

As I was reading this thread I was going to ask if anyone had done this. I want to put it on our table, my daughter has single handedly destroyed it, but I figure a quick sanding and this should keep it alive a few more years.

I am going to research it right now.

Did a few clocks and other small projects with that stuff back in HS. Follow Duuuuuuuude's advice and you'll love the outcome.

I would do more than a quick sanding...this stuff will be the last thing you'll likely ever do to the table. Sand it, restain it, then coat it. Follow the instructions like your life depended on it.

Our table is still looking really good. A few light scratches here and there but you can't see them unless you've got your nose in it. Keep in mind that I did not leave it glossy. Once it was fully cured I lightly sanded and repolished it so that it was dull but clear. It looks like a bare wooden table that has been taken care of, not like one with a sheet of glass on top of it.

I'm thinking of refinishing our oak topped kitchen table, it has a small scratch in it going through the cherry stain and shows up white ....but my thought is to just finish it with a good oil to bring out what the oak has in it, that way I don't have to worry bout the finish showing different colored scratches in it....what does get on it won't show cause it's not a stained top ....

I built this out of MDF, using joysticks and buttons from a NBA Jam machine that were given to me for free.
Two cheap USB gamepads, self-adhesive shelf covering and 4mm thick Perspex.
Wiring was leftover from when we had an alarm fitted at work.
Great for playing MAME games on my PC.

Does Melamine count?

I've had this roll-away base for awhile. I use it next to my mill to hold my keyboard and monitor, but it was always too low so I built this to raise it up to a comfortable height. The adjustable shelf is handy too and gives me a bit more storage. My neighbor down the street is a cabinet maker, and he left all the Melamine at the end of his driveway one day with a "free" sign on it. I have a bunch more so I need to get busy.

Added some legs

Added some basil and rosemary in organic soil
