FRANKY RIZO- i also have another suggestion. if it is a 250 u are still looking for get one with a pipe. this being because it will fill in all the gaps a stock bike's powerband has. such as the hondas. yes a pipe makes a bike faster but at the same time makes it more controlable and smooth. and will add torque everywere in the powerband.
Are you RV? No? Then you don't need to ride it that way. Those guys can ride that way because they have a couple motors broken in just sitting in the trailer, it takes all of about half an hour to unplug and unbolt and swap an engine. I've been to the last 2 Seattle Supercrosses and the last two Washougal Nationals, you may remember the Washougal round this year was when RV's bike grenaded at the top of Horsepower Hill, probably the same engine that had been pinged off the limiter in practice. My freinds neighbor bought an 06 KX250F, 4 months later, the bike grenaded, and they can't afford to fix it (I don't know how they were able to buy the bike in the first place if they can't fix it but whatever).

I throw the euro bikes in here for longevity, I've got a 1999 GASGAS 300 that is still on the stock topend....granted I'm not an expert level MX racer or even an A class local MXer, this bike has given me more than I've asked of it and still comes back for more. The 250-300cc 2 strokes can be had for a decent price, figure out the type of riding, track, trail or a mixture and pick your poison. Not to many of us can really use all the power a 450 4 stroke can put out, let alone that of a 250 2-stroke. I'd stray away from any YZ 4stroke that's older than a 2003, they changed to an automatic decompression system that year. That made them a ton easier to start...they can still be tempermental @ times, though. Honda 450 4 strokes are a great bike, but on a long ride all the power and weight can really turn into a not good time.

Yamaha YZ250 2 stroke, for someone who is starting out would be a good recommendation, you can track ride one day, then with a spark arrestor go trailing another time...very versitile bike, mostly because of the torque and tractable power delivery...good stuff.

Many of the guys I ride with are switching to the smaller 250 4-strokes, lighter and good power. KTM 250 SX-F and the Yamaha YZ250F are the most popular, Kaw 250F close but not quite there, and most everyone I know avoids the Honda 250F like the plague. Honda has had some serious valve issues with these little bikes.

If you have a good, knowledgable KTM dealer (and Vegas does) don't be afraid to look into those. A 250 or 300 SX/MXC/EXC and the newer 250/300 XC/XC-w's are awesome scooters....I'd look @ something 2002 or newer. If 4 strokes are calling to you the 400/450 MXC/EXC are excellent...and they have that MAJIC BUTTON...They are Electric Start. The European bikes have a race bred technology, and they're just plain old built to last, excellent components and top notch craftmanship.

Here's a couple good sources of Information

Good luck, LMK if you have anymore ???

Stan.

i never said i was RV, i dont ride 4 strokes ether. u missed the whole point of my post i was just backing up what DTP had said about the kids learning from the pro's. i ride 2 strokes, and you can actually ride a 2 stroke wide open all day and not have a problem with it gernading..well i meen it will eventually but they will run a while when reved.

Yes, I know, that was more a rhetorical question, not directed at you.
