Some of us earn our living with those tools and there are some reasons why. The quality of "some" of there stuff is great and there is allot of stuff that is priced pretty close between the big tool guys(mac, matco) but I have yet to find a snap on 1/2" gun that compares to the cp and ingersoll stuff (there 3/8" gun is awsome)..

Here I am over here buying stuff at Harbor Freight... with a coupon.... during a sale. granted, my cordless stuff is DeWalt, and calipers/micrometers are Starrett.. but hey, buying tools about the same place as the Ford/Chevy debate |

For the home/DIYer, horrible freight & sears are just fine. Once you get into any serious daily use you quickly see the difference between the 2. I completely agree that Snap-on are over priced, but nothing else comes close to the quality of the tools.

Snap on makes some good stuff but prices are getting kind of ridiculous, Have you looked at the Milwaukee line of products?

over 20yrs working with/around mechanics in all kinds of shops I have seen many many many arguments on DeWalt vs Makita, or SnapOn vs Craftsman vs Matco vs Cornwell vs Mac.... it all breaks in the end.. It can be quite entertaining sometimes.

I turn wrenches everyday and i have a select few snap on tools. Most of my tools are cheap stuff but guess what? They never break or cause me any issues. I have good stuff where it matters but it makes zero sense to me to spend $50-75k on hand tools, then have to wait 2 weeks for the snap on dealer to roll through your shop, just so you can argue with him whether or not he will warranty the defective tool. No thanks. Cant even buy or get MAC serviced where i live anymore but its just as well as most of their tools had become really really crappy. Ive worked in a few shops and the dude with the biggest, fanciest tool box was usually the worst mechanic in the shop. Over compensating? |

FWIW, I also have some nice quality ratchets and small sized sockets, but there's also plenty of craftsman sockets in the big 1/2" drive sizes. I couldn't justify the cost of Snap-on for a large socket that gets used once every 3 years. It's almost fun to go to sears with a 1-3/4" socket that's cracked in half ( that I broke using it on a hydraulic press ) and getting a new one. You can see the look on the clerks face as he's dying to know how I broke it, but if he doesn't ask, I won't have to lie!

I still buy snap on even not being a tech anymore...I like the product, I like the support, and you pay quality that IMO is second to none. Just picked up a new 1/2 click type torque wrench and a blue point car jumper one of those small jammy ones

So after looking in into the 725 1/4 I ended up going with the 761 3/8 a few bucks more double the power and I will just run a 3/8 to 1/4 adaptor on it tell I wear out all my 1/4 and phase in new 3/8 stuff. I think the 725 1/4 would have done what i wanted it to but it would have been hard on it. As for the Millwakiee,Chraftsman dewalt ect.. I've had them and they just dont hold up to everyday use for long
