Default Past axialfest's

Y'all would have to sign a waiver before ? That's strange, but there's a reason for it , i guess?

The reason is they don't want to be sued if you hurt yourself.

Because...

Otherwise these events just flat wouldn't happen, not in this unbelievably litigious society we live in.

These events don't make any real profit for anyone.

IIRC we had to sign them at the event several years ago. Durok nailed it.

Too many lawyers and greedy people.

I'd be willing to bet that that it is Donner Ski Ranch that is requesting it and Not the organizers. In my life experiences, in the legal world, if someone was to get hurt and there could be liability it probably isn't worth the paper it is printed on. IMO

It might be because they are an LLC, with lots of lawyers. Horizon I'm sure has been putting on big events with airplanes for a long time, they know what they are doing, and how to protect themselves. None of the rock crawling events are on flat ground, It's rocky and steep, and people do slip and fall occasionally.

Public land vs private.

I have been to a comp or two where you had to sign something like this when it was held on private land. Lets face it, in this day and age you have to wear a legal condom for stuff like this, even through the activity, by definition, my be considered somewhat hazardous, i.e.: "Rock Crawling". It is not a far stretch that some shyster lawyer could successfully argue to a jury of idiots that their client was not warned that the rocks were hard, and adequate safety precautions , like hand rails and cautionary signs were not installed around the venue warning participants that crawling all over rocks with a toy truck and its remote might be dangerous if they fall down.

I'll bet PL will make you sign one as you check in, our events here bring out about 100 people and everyone signs a liability waiver at check in. Really is standard practice for any public event with physical participation.

Axial is most likely putting this out ahead of time to speed up check in with so many people.

This is the truth, no disclaimer or waiver will override negligence on the organizer's part but it helps if an attendee does something stupid. Part of my job includes hearing about all the stupid things people do in NC state parks and the attempted law suits that follow. Those signs posting the rules and warnings have saved the state millions.

There's been wavers at Axialfest for the past several years. I don't know why it's a big deal. It's an easy way to guard from frivolous lawsuits.
