Another 22 yo Dies On The Mountain

Another young person dies skiing, 22 year old college student from PA. this happens multiple times a year here. A out of area Rec Skier takes on Whiteface and goes off a cliff or into the woods and dies. I thought maybe with COVID there would be less tragedy, I was wrong. If they would only stay on the rec-slopes, but no we have to try the Olympic Runs, and the results are injuries or worse. RIP, so sad your adult life had just started.

I feel terrible for his loved ones. I have seen first hand how they are affected. I ripped hard for a number of years as a young guy living in the Kootenays. Tree wells and avalanches took the lives of several guys I knew during that time. One was the partner a woman I am good friends with. It sucked seeing her spirit so shaken.

My brother is a ski patrol/instructor/tech up near Taos Ski Valley in northern New Mexico, they lose several each year, it's usually poachers hitting closed trails and burying themselves. Almost never makes the news because that is bad for business.

We used to go up Stanley Glacier and board down the BC side, good times! Lucky guy living out there, what a place to have a life.

Unfortunately it makes the news here, part of the Police & Rescue Calls Blotter that is reported on each day. People come for the Hotels and Party time that Lake Placid has to offer and then hit the Mountain. They end up going on slopes way over their ability level.
