| Ol' School Touring Car Wheels?
YEARS behind the modern day touring car (on road, drifting) scene, so I haven't a clue what is out there, or where to even begin to look. I stumbled across an old Parma body in the attic today, and just had to make it work on my drifter project.....................but normal touring car wheels aren't going to cut it! Does anyone make anything like a Cragar SS for modern touring cars?? Or anything ol' school?? |

I did a little search on the body before I put scissors anywhere near it. Of course, I figured this thing hadn't seen daylight in over 10 years, so if it was rare and valuable, it was going on ebay (to support other rc stuff). And although little is out there about it, I did find it is available from shopatron for $32...................so the slicing began. I went ahead and ordered one, so I can use the one I have for experimentation until complete, then only cut the nice one only where exactly needed. I.E., have a "show" body, and a "go" body. Parma describes it as an 8 piece clear body set, with no mention of a decal sheet. I REALLY hope there is a decal set for the grille and dash, because to paint those accurately is going to be a PITA. The set that I found consists of four lexan pieces, but I guess it you split it up the right way, it could be eight pieces. https://www.shopatron.com/img/produc...f783d69f10.jpg https://www.shopatron.com/product/pa...er=10383/137.0 Another good thing was that I found this body in an old Bolink Sport box, which still had a Bolink rolling chassis in it (I thought I sold off all my Bolink stuff years ago). The chassis I am using is a nitro chassis, which I have sold off the engine, so the Bollink motor and spur mount may come in handy soon. I do need to shorten up the wb of the chassis about 1/2", which mount wise isn't a big deal.................but I am going to have to find a shorter drive belt or create a tensioner to shorten it up. Oh well, I will figure that out later. |

| This would be an internal battle in my head........... The '80s twelve year old in me wants to go candy red, with maybe a little yellow flame on the front. But to be honest, a red Model A roadster is just about as overdone as '57 Chevys. The purist in me wants to do it like it would have been done in it's prime, late '40s or '50s...............and go flat black. Problem with that is that the molded windshield and coil front just isn't how it would have been done back then. I think for ease, I am going to go with a dark blue to go along with the coils. I did shorten up the wheelbase by 1/2" on the chassis, with should allow for enough adjustment in the intermediate belt to work. Looks wise, I should bring the rear forward another 1/4" or so, but then I need to mess with many more mounts and get two belt replacements. For now, I need to find one belt that is 1" shorter than the stock intermediate one. Hopefully SDP will have something that will work. |
