| How much is too much?
I just did measurements on a plane I built. At full throttle I'm sittin' on 11 volts with an Amp draw of 9 amps That's 99 Watts. The plane weighs...six ounces ready to fly. That's 16.5W/oz. or 264W/lb. Wingspan is a whopping 19 inches. Wonder how fast it'll be |

Wouldn't the force of the prop tear the front end off because of the drag on the fuselage( I assume I spelled that right? )

It's a pusher. ;) http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXKZC3&P=7 I took out the stock 180 sized brushed motor, replaced it with a 4100kV Park 370 inrunner. Prop runs directly off the motor. Had to make a new lite-ply firewall for it, then install a 12A controller. Hope to maiden it tomorrow. I've had buddies with Hacker powered foamies rip the front off the fuse before while pulling out of a hover. Last edited by JasonInAugusta; 07-16-2007 at 11:11 PM. |

Foam. What's funny...watch this video: http://video1.hobbico.com/gallery/gp...172-deluxe.mpg That's with the stock 180 brushed motor on 9.6V. I'm running 11.1V with a 4100kV brushless. It'll be damn fast at 1/4 - 1/2 throttle. Much more than that and it'll be ballistic. Last edited by JasonInAugusta; 07-16-2007 at 11:21 PM. |

This may sound like an odd question but one I've always wanted to ask someone that flies the foam planes. When the electronics get hot, doesn't it start melting stuff? |

Well...nah, not really. There's usually a good bit of airflow. Only fires I've seen have been lipo. Everything else just smokes. |

"Everything else just smokes." Sounds promising. If I understand the power to weight ratio you listed, you are beyond the range of, "more than even necessary. |

What kind of foam is it? You need the ultra light high density co-polymer Ti-strand infused foam used to make the space shuttle landing gear. Please have it on video when it rips itself to shreds or melts reaching Mach 1. |

For someone who is dumb to airplanes, would this be a good radio to get something like this off the ground? http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...I=LXLGF429&P=0 As for the battery, this is what they tell you to use, http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXGBL9&P=M but I cant seem to find a charger that I can plus into the wall, only the cig. lighter in the car. Im really thinking about getting one of these to fly back home at my parents place. Lots of big open fields, so it should be lots of fun. |

I build up a plane similar to that one on Real Flight 3.5. All it would do when you hit the throttle was do flips. One of our plane guys made some adjustments to it and it flew pretty good.

Had to add 1.25 oz. to the nose to get it to balance. That drops it to 218w/lb. :-( |
