Default Fire

Holy crap is all I can say. Looks like the neighborhood where I grew up is not gonna fair well, they evacuated the whole neighborhood at 5am. Few of my friends parents still live up there but all are out and ok for now. I drove up there yesterday and it looked very close, don't think the old hood is gonna survive unless these winds shift the other way. Will upload a few pics in a few. Flames were visible within only a couple miles of Laporte. This thing is HUGE and only getting worse with all this wind. It's almost to the back side of horsetooth, with their 14000 acre estimate this morn puts it roughly the size of Boulder.

Wow Jason,
Those are some amazing pics.
That whole area is sooo dry and with all the beatle kill it is going to continue for some time.
They are not estimating any amount of control at this time.
I hope everyone gets out when they have the chance and that pets and livestock are safe.
This is looking to be a very big fire at this point and looking like no end soon.
Stay clear and safe.

Yea it's big, I've heard 0 containment still. I think they are just trying to stay proactive and get people out of the way for now, it's moving fast.

That's nuts. Even down here in the springs it was hazy all day. Almost like a Los Angeles type yellow haze. I wish you guys the best. Though a small consolation, pm me if you need anything.

That orange smokey glow is a sight I hope to never witness personally ever again.

Years ago my family and I almost lost a house near Bailey Colorado in the Snaking fire. A wind direction change and Hwy 285 saved our house ultimately.

Here's to hoping the wind doubles back and snuffs a lot of that fire.

Just drove by again, snapped a couple pics but didn't turn out very well. There is a very prominent eerie orange glow over the hills and the glow is pretty huge. Puts how big it is into persepctive. Smoke is pretty thick even here at home about 5-6 miles away. It's thick thick by my buddies house, like driving in heavy fog. He's under a pre-evac order, basically get your shit together cause your probably gonna have to go. Sad to see but at the same time it's an amazing sight to see at night.

Seems like Hayman:The Sequel--10 years later, same drought conditions, almost the same start date. Dry summers in Colorado just SUCK!

I was in Berthoud yesterday, and everything was hazy until the wind picked up. By the time we left all the haze was gone, but you could see smoke from the fire...I hate the wind here

Best wishes to all of you in that area...I heard on the news that this one in the worst in 25 years for Colorado. Between the beetle kill and forest fires, it won't be long before this entire state is totally bare.

What really pisses me off is that our military is not helping more if at all. I mean with all the air force right here and big birds. But nooooooo, we have to take care of the rest of the frigging world first. Sigh

From what I'm reading and seeing, it's in a area where the beetle population is big, by all means this nation could help more and curb it but they might be thinkin bigger and wanting the fire to just sweep through and possibly stop or slow the beetle infestation. Nothing better than letting mother nature do her work to stomp out a bug
