Default Motors

Anybody try the 70 turn 380 size motors from the Rockslide RS10? Looks like they'll fit...

Where did you find them for sale? I lost the one site that I could find that sold them. All the others listed the 540 motor.

You seen'em for sale anywheres? I can't seem to find 370's, just the 1/8 scale's 540's.

I just don't see how Redcat, of all places, could have solved this problem. There have been people searching everywhere and even hand building motors with little success. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a 7.2V motor solution other than the 454's, which are overkill. I'm just doubting it. 73fordhighboy, you need to hijack your buddies rig and borrow those motors and let us know, haha.

actually 2 of my neighbors have them redcats- 1 stock, 1 with rovers and those things can crawl. i will declare: they do not have the wheel speed like the cc. they also dont have to blip the throttle as much to over come stall.

i was able to read my buddies redcat manual. there are actually two different motors: eo39t and eo39r and 2 pinion options- 8t & 10t. i'll call redcat again about their specs.

Default Focus on gear ratio instead of better motors.

I do not think there is a motor that solves our problems. It maybe are some with a bit more torq, but not revolutionary. However, you can surely find one that gives a lot of unwanted extra rpm, but we dont want to build a basher...

Some facts:
Duratrax Cliff Climber stock total ratio is about 28:1 using stock 11T pinion. 8 or 9T pinion would only bring it to about 35:1

Searched for something to compare with and choosed Axial AX-10
found some figures in this thread
Why no r&P gearing options from vendors?

Stock Ax-10
Internal tranny gears 2.6
Stock pinion (14 tooth) and spur (87 tooth) 6.21
Total tranny ratio = 16.15
a 2.92 ratio ring and pinion in the diffs for a final stock crawl ratio of 47.2

So with the same motors in both rigs the CC would have half the torq and double speed...
So focus on gears more than motors, my CC is now running with 1.7:1 gearboxes that will give about 47:1, stock motors, and in my opinion still to fast, but some wheelspin can be useful in some situations.

i went to my first comp the other day... tell then i thought you just kinda crawled around... a good mix of wheelspeed and torque is the combo. in my highboy, 4 low and granny low on the trans- the lowest, you can get out, empty the beer in your gut walk back to the truck and get back in- in like 30 feet. slow is good but in the rubicon you need to have power (displacement) and speed. im curious to know how much power these plastic dana 44's (hehe) can handle. with weights in the tires and all- i just dont think (an uneducated guess) these 380 can muster up enough tq to crawl. im hoping redcats options will get me close enough to my driving style.
me being the loyalist, when this thing loses it's last bits of duratrax parts - i'll still run the cliff climber body`
