Default Lack of power

I'm having some issues with my crawler.

I am running the following:

Tekin Rebel 2
DX3r Receiver
hitec 7955 for steering
645mg for dig
DNA dig
55t Integy Lathe Motor
8 cell 1500 nimh saddle pack from holmes hobbies
I'm running a CC BEC wired per Castle's instructions.

I'm running a droop suspension with TLT axles, to Panther Cougars on Double phatty beadlocks. 4 bearings in the front, zero in the rear.

My crawler seems to kill the battery pack within 10 minutes of use. I used to run just a 645mg and I was getting around 45 mins of use out of the pack,. Now with the upgraded servo, second dig servo, and the cc BEC, the pack is dead with 10 mins. I understand that there is a higher draw on the system, but I didn't think it would kill it that soon. I have two identical 1500 packs, and both act the same.

I also have a lack of power and torque. Even trying to climb a 50* carpeted incline is a struggle, and this is with a fresh pack. The 55T lathe should have plenty of torque to at least spin the wheels, but it appears the motor just stalls, and will start to overheat.

Should I jump to Lipo?

Any ideas?

Im not sure what to tell you.... other than, I run almost an identical setup as you and I get about 1 HOUR of run time with my small MaxAmps 3s 1550mah lipo and they only cost $49.99 when i bought them Now the price has gone up a bit.

Go Lipo... you will never go back

How old is the motor? Have you ever replaced the brushes? If not, that is your problem.

My thoughts are either a bad cell in your pack, or your motor needs a comm and brush cut. Could be both.

The motor is new. It maybe has 10 hours of run time.

Both packs are from your site and were purchased in Sept. I'll try swapping in a 45T I have and see what happens.

That sounds like a good plan!

I put in the 45T. Power is back, but my motor gets extremely hot under load while climbing, to the point it will smoke. I haven't had a chance to verify the runs times.

That doesnt sound correct. These high turn motors should not be getting hot at all. How do you have the timing adjusted??

I would definitely replace the brushes in that other motor and put it back in...

Are you using molex style connectors? If so, get rid of them and get some lower resistance connectors. Just a thought...

Timing is stock. Motor has capacitors as well.

I run Duratrax PowerPoles. I've used them in my R/C trucks for years.

Don't trust factory timing, it could have came loose during shipping. Look and see if it needs retiming Caring for your new Brushed motor

Any binding in your drivetrain?

No binding, but the rig is relatively heavy @ 7lbs. Double phattys, mip shafts, etc. I reprogrammed the ESC (again).

Flat surfaces aren't a problem, but as soon as it gets under load during a ramp incline climb, it heats up.

just managed to drain a pack in 5 mins...something is leeching power. Whenever I try to climb something, the rig just stalls and the motor starts to smoke.

did you check for any shorts? You could be grounding out somewhere and making a resistor. Maybe a little too much solder and you are creating a short?

Did you check the motor timing?

Switch back to your old servo/dig setup, or just run the front servo only, and see if the problems go away. One of your new servos could be bad, or something else that you upgraded/changed. Go back to the setup that last worked correctly and see if the problems go away.

I'm going to swap in another ESC and Motor, and run things one at a time until I find what is killing my power.

There are not shorts, exposed wires, etc in the system. I even have the CC BEC disconnected.

Have you checked the motor brushes yet? When the truck stops running, does it gradually (over a few minutes) get slower or does it come to a dramatic stop? If it is the latter, then I am pretty sure that worn brushes are your problem. I just recently went through this same issue.

No, the brushes are not worn. I swapped in another motor with a very low run time on it, and the symptoms were the same. I'm leaning towards a faulty ESC.
