So wait...At a Great Plains show everyone had radios from Horizon? If you went to a fun fly put on by Horizon it's just marketing for them to be using the DX6...showing how the radio/RX bind to one another and that powering up your radio doesn't mean that you have to go get freq clips, worry about shooting down another dude's plane, etc. The DX6 is nice because there's no freq clips...it's 2.4GHz. The radio and RX bind (handshake) and you're ready to fly/drive. The radio constantly has two links to the RX. IF one link drops it jump to the other link. Said to be glitch free. It's a cool radio. The rubber ducky antenna is more durable than the standard extendos we have now, and the two little RX antennas (90 degrees apart from one another) aren't but about 3-4" long. ;) Horizon doesn't suggest the DX6 to be used for anything but park flyers due to control rage of the radio (1500' if I remember right). BUT...they're a perfect radio for us crawlers. I'll have one. I wish it had an on-screen display like the VG6000, it'd be tits then. But I'm used to the JR radios and the DX6 follows the same basic navigation through menus as the XR2, XR3, and XS3. |

Spektrum also has a 3 channel radio like the XR3...called the DX3. There were a few reports of guys having problems with these...loss of control problems. Turns out the problem was a manufacturering error where the design wasn't followed and the RX wire was routed across part of the circuit board. This obviously caused noise on the RX circuit. It's since been fixed. Another cool thing about the Spektrum system is that for $140 you can get real-time telemetry systems that will send signal strength, speed/rpm, batt voltage, and a reading from a temp sensor back to a small handheld unit. |
