i just ordered my airtronics vg6000 today. it is a two stick controler with a 6 channel receiver. it was $180 shiped to my door. i have done some research on this controler and it should work great for my setup. i am running to super roosters and two hitec5955 servose, this way i can do front and rear diggs. it should work well for your setup too. there are others on this board that seem to like this controler. i will let you know how i like it when i get it latter this week. i have never used a two stick controler before. i have allways used a pistal grip. well i hope this helped.

here is a pic of the controler i am getting

Seems I've started a trend with the VG6000.

The VG kicks *** 'cause there's no menu...everything is on the LCD in an easy to read format.

You'll want to call Airtronics and get the parts to make the left gimbal's vertical movement spring-loaded so it'll return to center.

I think my next radio will be a Spektrum DX6.

I run a Hitec Lazer6, it is an FM 6 channel stick radio but only runs about $130 from tower. I dont have any complaints yet.

Yes you have.
Also, make sure they send you the parts for the VG6000. They sent me parts for a VG400/600.

why do you need the v-tail mixer if you run 2 esc? cant you run one esc on one stick and the other esc on the other stick without the mixer? i plan on having the front steering and esc on the left stick and the rear steering and esc on the right stick.

i called horrizon today and asked some questions about the dx6. the first person i talked with said that you could not make the throttle stick spring back to center. the second person i talked to told me you could but they would have to do it for you that if you tryed to do it yourself you would void the warranty. they also told me that the controler is backordered till the end of january.

<----- Read the location.

You CAN make the throttle (channel 3) on the DX6 a spring return, it's a matter of 3 or 4 little parts to change on the gimbal. It's the same procedure we use on the VG6000.

BTW, the DX6's are definitely on backorder. Things should be better after the first of the year...perhaps mid to late Jan. The guys at Fly RC got one in, I requested two for crawler projects, but won't be getting them until Jan or so. I think they'll be the hot ticket for comp rigs and be versatile enought that the scale guys will find uses for the extra channels.

Regarding the V-tail mixer...

I don't like having throttle for one axle on one stick and throttle for the other axle on the other stick. A setup like that just SCREAMS for you to make a fat-thumbed mistake while steering and accidentally giving throttle when it's not wanted. You have more precise control of things with throttle and steering on seperate gimbals.

If you run throttle off channels 1 and 2 on the VG6000 (or any other computerized "airplane" radio for that matter) you probably won't need a V-tail mixer. Most computer radios have this feature built in on channels 1 and 2.

The reason I run a V-tail mixer is because the channels I'm mixing are 3 and 4. I'm used to 2 channel stick radios from back in the day and have become accustomed to throttle being on the left and steering on the right.

So, I use the Mixer on the channels I want to mix....3 and 4.

That's about it.

so where do you get the parts to make the throttle spring return? horizzon told me they would not sell the parts. can i use the same parts that i have from the vg6000?i see your location but what and where is that? i think i am going to return my vg6000 and wait for the dx6. i hate to wait that long because i really wanted to start driving my crawler, but i think for the little extra $ it is a much more versatile radio than the vg6000.

Horizon told you they won't sell the parts to make it a spring return?

I can understand them saying this at this point because, by the looks of things, there's a high demand for them in the parkflyer market. Once the initial rush of orders is over and things get steady in the supply chain I think things will change. Airtronics also said that doing the spring return mod to the VG6000 would void the warranty.

I'll see what's up tomorrow. Need to talk to Horizon anyway.

BTW, my location means I'm at a point where I don't care about warranties...I mod everything I get my hands on.

yes they told me that they would not sell me the parts to make it a spring return because that would tempt me to open the thing up and that would void my warrantie. what a bunch of bs. by the looks of your location you know what i mean. one guy told me spring return no can do, next guy told me it can be done but they have to do it. i do not know what to belive.

Paul Beard (inventor of the Spektrum) is a local at our LHS. He said the cargo container that the radios are in were held by customs. He said they are probably checking for illegal Milasians hiding with the radios

Next time he comes in I'll ask about the spring back throttle.

im sure they will do it, but only if you ask. Pretty standard for other companies like JR. It is normal for them to NOT sell the parts, because as you said it tempts people to crack the case.

The RC world doesn't quite understand us crawlers yet.

I'm working on them.
