Just picked up a scx-10, and about to order a tekin 45t motor crawler combo. ive seen lots of posts about BEC's and ccbec and such, but I still struggle to grasp what this all means. Do i NEED a bec on my rig? why? what does it do? will my rig function without one? please, help out a newcomer I would really appreciate any answers I just can't figure this out by myself.

BEC = battery elimination circut what it does is power the servos, the fxr as most ESC has a built in bec altho the fxr a small one, like 6v 3 amp or somthing like that, by running an external BEC, like the CC BEC (castle creations) you route the power for the servos threw that rather then your esc. this takes some load off the esc and have to "work less". with high torque servos and no bec, when your turn and full throttle you wont have nearly as much power as you should becuz the esc is splitting the voltage between the servo and motor. i HIGHLY recoment to run a BEC with the FXR, for the cost its totally worth it sorry i really suck at explaining things |

unlike the first thread link to, you dont always need a bec. the bec in the speed controller will get you up and running. -what servo are you running??? -are you running a 2nd servo for rear steer or dig, and what servo??? -what are you doing with the truck, comp crawling or just having fun??? -are you running more than 7.4 volts??? if you run a single servo and its not an insanely high torque digital, you could get away with the internal bec, if you run a small servo for a dig or running rear steer, you may or may not need a bec. if you compete or run 3s lipo, id highly recommend one. most speed controller internal bec's dont work well on 3s lipo, even if they are designed for it. my thoughts are get the truck running and see how it works. if you need a bec you will find your truck wont move forward at certain times, mainly when you have loads big enough to stall the servo. if that happens, then you need a bec. however if that never happens, then you will be fine with an internal bec. |

Spend the $20 and get yourself a Castle BEC. It's more than worth it. I run a BEC on my scale rigs with lower torque servos. I will disagree with the above post and say that if your running a dig servo or rear steer, you DO need to run a BEC! A BEC will only help you, not hurt you.

We really need a stickie on this! it pops up every couple days. Mr. Holmes has some great write-ups and I would like to see him do one on the bec, and stickie it. I know there is a lot of info in the other stickie, but I think there needs to be a dedicated bec stickie titled: Do I need a bec? Last edited by chevellian; 11-28-2009 at 06:22 AM. |

I run a BEC on EVERY electric truck that I have. It is an inexpensive way to take some of the load off of the ESC, while providing the required power to the servos.
