I'm mostly concerned about the drag brake...how strong is it?
Compared to any other ESC...like FXR for example that is said to have great drag brakes?

Can it be disabled?
Does it have any functions at all on the ESC?

If a drag brake is all you want get the holmes it WILL stop your crawler and dish more power than a crawler will handle in most cases but at a price. I think rc4wd has a killer esc here for the price especially for a trail rig or basher, try e-mailing them through their site maybe and i'm sure they will help you out

Sounds like this thing is a very simplified version of the rooster crawler only it has 4s capabilities rather than 2s but no lipo cutoff profile just plug and play. I just hope the drag brake is as strong as the rooster........time will tell I guess.

For a scaler it worked great we ran a total of about 3.5 hours, 2 hours of it was continuous. At the end of the day the rig did start cutting out but i couldn't tell if it was the ESC because i have it inside a sealed waterproof box so it wasn't getting any air. But even if it did get hot and shut down it was well past the point after 2 hours straight of 35t motor tearing up some extreme trails. Seems to be a great product at a even greater price! I will keep you all posted if i come across any issues. Thanks RC4WD
Glad to hear you had great results. This stuff we like to hear.

The drag brake can't be disabled.

Functions? There is no programming to this ESC. It is a Plug and Play unit.

That's pretty odd. We answer e-mails almost everyday. Even Christmas day.

The ESC is a good inexpensive unit for those that want to run high power lipo's. It offers a great drag brake, and very nice power control. The BEC gets all the power to the Servo to allow for that needed steering.

I only have a Mamba Max to compare to. It seemed to have a little better drag break than the MM with the original firm ware. Holds great and is a very simple piece with no settings. You have to remeber that you are spending half of what you would for a new FXR. Dont know what else your looking for really, all i can say is it works great for me so far.

Not to mention the fact that you get an external bec with it so that $20 for the bec and $30 for the esc......show me a better deal with capabilities of this unit. I haven't even got it yet but I know it will be a great little unit even if it doesn't do as good as my rooster crawler it is leaps and bounds better that the ae-1 esc that it is going to replace.

I donīt like it when it rolls especially on uphills.

Are you using the stock tranny?

EDIT: I've just been messing around in the house so far today but it can
drive up any vertical wall/fridge/couch etc., let go of the throttle and it'll stay
put even only like 2-3" up. Running R2D & 15t pinion, 35t brushed Integy, and 7 cell 1500 Elite

Im def. happy with it so far! and I actually got it balanced out better even with the added girth of the ESC...
I like em heavy though!

The red ESC wire was pulled and shrinked from the factory...??
If so, whats it rated?

I don't remember what the internal BEC was rated for. Probably around the norm. Maybe 1-3a.

Why would you want to push it? if it holds on it's own it works. Your not going to be pushing it down the rocks.:?
