| I have the DX3e
Any look at either Amain or Tower should give you a good look at whats available. I am running the DX3e and I am ok with it. Apparently a mx3 is out that is supposed to be great for crawling but it also only has an on off 3 channel switch so its worth taking with the grain of salt. I might suggest waiting until your cha ching will allow and get a DX3r or s. Ebay is always an option.

A tq3 can be had really cheap, and with a simple modification you can turn the 2 position 3rd channel into a 3 position. Check ebay.

What ya need in a crawler radio is a 3 position 3rd channel switch and epas on all three channels. 2.4 is really nice too. At $100, about the only choice is the dx3e. It can only save one rig's settings, I don't like the placement of the trim dials (too easy to hit when ya don't want to) and I have heard of problems with the netrual width on some setups. But for the $s it a good choice. Futaba just announced/leaked some new radios but I don't really know anything about them yet (may be worth the wait?).

I am for the dx3e this is what I am runing and it works great for sportman level rig. Would probably want somthing more for a Pro level rig, but the DX3e does have 3 pos. 3rd. channel switch so it would get you started with M.O.A. or D.I.G. I have had the 3e for about two months now and with almost daily use I have had no problems. Even dropped it a few times!

These are cheap... I run a JR Xr3 (not 3.0). It has a 3 position switch you just need to solder in a toggle switch inplace of the stock "slide" switch... These are not as easily found though. Usually run 50-75 bucks used. | |

Get a modded 3rd channel switch, 3ch traxxas radio off the for sale section! You can find them for about 30$ I have two of them one for me and one for my son they work great. Nothing fancy just work. Then if you want more save for the dx3r. To be able to control all your cars from one radio, and 2.4gig is worth it. The only advantage the dx3e has over a traxxas is end point adjustments. |
