Default 4PK - AA batteries

I was kinda annoyed that there isn't an out of the box option for AA's in my new radio but after I read this I was hopeful:
4PK Setups, Tips, Tricks and Help

So I knew 4 batteries could go in. After having the DX3R I had a bunch of rechargeable AA's but those are only around 1.2v per cell. With the lower power my 4PKS would not run for very long until the low voltage alarm started to go off at 4.2v. So I'd have to find a way to fit 5 batteries in there if I want to use rechargeable AA's.

I had already purchased the same 4 battery holder as Sarge (Digi-com) but I went ahead and grabbed a single cell holder from Radio Shack.

Test fitting looked great:

I didn't understand why nobody else had put 5 batteries in there. Of course once I actually put batteries in there, it got a little too tight. It's hard to see but it was sticking up and just barely not going to fit well. I could have forced it but....

Rather than trim off the side pieces that clasp the stock battery in, I decided it would all fit if I trimmed off the single little nub that sarge used to hold his setup in.

Success.

Now I can run the factory battery and whatever kind of AAs I please.
