one confusing thing though, it also says • Current Limiter 40A~260A
what does that mean if the max is 3120?
It means it can probably handle 3120 amps for 1/4 of a second as opposed to 780 for consecutive seconds

And I saw that the ESC up there can do it, but they are rated to 14.4V, I'm sure it'd do it, but thats where the margin of safety came in... and thats why I went and looked at that thing

no i get the peak and constant, but it has a current limiter of 40A-260A
so doesn't that contradict the other numbers or am i missing something?

*rereads your post* (I have been so off today )

Mayyyybe it means you can limit its output to that, after all, the picture of it has that giant computer next to it that looks like a car tuner

Hm... thats a big capacitor next to it, you think its to provide more amps than the battery can? Interesting idea...

usually the capacitor is on higher end escs to smooth out throttle response, cause they turn on and off, but your idea is cool, kind of like capacitor banks for photo gear, my dad has 5 with a combined output of somewhere around 20,000A 8O

ohhh, well the 40 to 260 is listed right under drag brakes so maybe it is for the brakes, :? maybe

Right, cause they can hold AC twitches not DC current... but those are generally pretty small... but thatsa big bitch!!

EDIT: lol, I love the cussword filter deal

they hold dc too, why else would we use 'em. and they're two types or two ways of wiring 'em,(i can't remember) but one way they will charge and dump, charge and dump, and so on. but the other way it will smooth things out, by taking the power surges and feeding it out slowly.

Yeah, I read an explanation that said what I said above, never really though it through. Cause they're used in Car Stereo stuff too, which is DC. You'd think putting them on the two leads of a motor would be detrimental then, if they transfered juice.

Guys, I run many Mtroniks ESC's in many of my buggies over here in the UK where it rains all the time the waterproof ESC's are great. However, as stated earlier the braking is awful and the reverse is pathetic (not needed so much on buggies and touring cars)

I run super roosters in my MT/crawlers because they can handle the high current draw when a heavy vehicle is climbing a steep rock face/hill etc, the reverse is also excellent and can pull my heavy crawler in reverse as almost as well as forwards.

However, the rumour about Mtroniks ESC's going up in smoke generally only applies to the fact that they are not tolerant of pulling higher amps than they are rated for.

I was running an Mtroniks Sport RV 15turn limit, it was running with a 22t Meyhem when the truck went thru some mud and the strain of powering thru deep sticky mud fried the ESC. I have done exactly the same stretch of mud in my crawler with a Super Rooster/meyhem with no problem at all. I have also done same stretch with a stock rooster and 550 drill motor and had no problems.

The moral of the story is: You get what you pay for

so which is better for one motor? the super rooster? or just rooster? how water tolerant are the chickens? lol

i was looking through this, since i heard they were waterproof and wanted one. im glad this has already been discussed.

oh yeah, the obligatory

The SR is tried and true. I just picked up an Mtroniks unit... we will see how it holds up.

Well, I've been running my Sonik4 E-Truck, I have about 30-40 minutes on it...

The Sonik4 has AWESOME brakes, forward is great, and very responsive; the only problem is the HUGE reverse delay, like 4 seconds. I emailed Mtroniks and they said thats just how they did it, but in the future there will be no reverse delay.

And there is nothing more waterproof than this!!! I buried my truck in a foot of snow (fell into a hole) then when I was trying to drive out, it rolled over and snow fell on it.. Not a problem

Snow runs are fun

If you really NEED the waterproofing, the Mtroniks is your best bet. The reverse delay is huge, I ran a comp and it wasn't a huge issue (even with rolling over backwards, just have to be careful)

I ran in the snow for like an hour with no issues, and I don't expect to have any The reverse delay does suck, and when you're rolling forward, you'll have to wait 4 seconds to stop it. But I'd so it again for the 100% waterproofness
