I haven't heard any plans, the 4PK case actually works pretty well. I can get a photo of that tonight probably.

Ahhh I see you haven't visited my friend Freq E tag :) A Freq E Skinz would make the case one of your own and nobody will accidentally walk away with your stuff also "thumbsup"

Aussie Nerd 12-15-2010 01:30 AM

I just thought I'd post this up here.

DO NOT coil your antenna inside the case. It cause the range to drop SIGNIFICANTLY. I have trouble keeping signal when the car is 3m away.

I just thought I'd put it up to save someone else the trouble;-)

DOH!! Oh dopey me!! I did forget about skinin' it. Now I just need to drive back out to the LHS and pick up the one they had in stock.

Oh my radio is on its way to Champaign IL for the update. Now let's hope they are not swamped and can get my TX back to me quickly so I can put it in the new case.. lol Good thing Illinois is just on the other side of Lake Michigan.8)

My radio came yesterday, but I didn't really get a chance to play with it. I'm going to tell my kids Santa brought it for me so they can't see it.

If I'm not running dual esc's, is there any reason for me to send in my radio for an update?

Harley 12-15-2010 07:47 AM

There really isn't a big need to send it in.

Mines on the way for the update now also, "thumbsup" Patience is not one of my virtues, I need to find something else now to think about or it will drive me crazy.

Kieren: thanks for the coil update, I was just about to do that.

Can you shorten the antenna ? The Spectrum you can pretty much cut all but 2" off,

Hey Harley,

Went through this whole thread and really did not see what I was looking for. Two questions for you.

1. I have a super question. The reason I run a stick radio is so I can have my rear stear propotional. I see that the 4pl has a dial type switch, can this be used for rear steer? I assume it will not be totally proportional, but imagine that it could be set up in steps just like the dual esc format?
2. With the new software, did the dig switch get changed from the cycle format, to click up for dig, click down for 4wd. click down for rear dig and up again for 4wd?

Really looking to go back to a pistol radio, but just want one for all my crawlers. Thanks Harley!

So are you saying that we can update it at home soon?

No. Harley is saying that if you are only running a single esc, there is really no need to send it in.

Yes the rear steer can br controlled via the DT switch or can use the built in 4WS that is built in. I will try and get a video of that tonight.

Yes the dig control is changed to how you described. See the video linked in te first post.

There will never be an option for home updating. The radio has to be disassembled partially to update it and Futaba is not giving up the software. I have even tried just getting it for myself and they aren't budging

Remote looks good in the case.

Sorry I didn't get to it last night, didn't stay at my place. I will plan on it tonight though. You will need the update as you mentioned.

I am going to build a Bully with 2 speed controls. I have been debating either the 3pm-x or the 4pl. How would you know if you have a 4pl that needs updating and what does update?

its lookin like a 3pm-x will work fine. Will it do speed control mixing? I think the video said yes.

If he is running duals there is no point in getting a 3PMx.

Get the 4PL so you can use your crawlers fullest capabilities.

No! 3pmx will NOT do what you need. 4PL or 4PK only.

Krakker 12-19-2010 04:11 PM

66bronco 12-19-2010 05:12 PM

I got my 4pl on friday and mailed it out saturday morning.

The Real Dogman 12-19-2010 05:23 PM

Well the USPS tried to deliver the radio in Champaing IL. yesterday. But they were closed! I hope they try to deliver again tomorrow. or Futaa picks it up at the PO.

Harley, I went back to the LHS and got the 4PK radio box, noe I just eed to see if Freq e tag would do a skin for it!!

ColquittCustom405 12-19-2010 08:40 PM

Josh,
Lots of good info in here. You've saved hours of programming for us. Just bought a 6EX not too long ago, looks like I'm getting a 4PL now.

They will get it tomorrow.

Neal already has the template for the 4PK case so all you need to do is let him know what you want. He also used my 4PL to make a template so if you need a skin for that too then you know what to do ;-)

Glad I can help DJ. Just let me know if there are any questions you have on possible setups.

The Real Dogman 12-20-2010 02:55 PM

Ok guys,
My radio was delivered today:

Your item was delivered at 9:16 am on December 20, 2010 in CHAMPAIGN, IL 61826.

On pins and needles now!! LOL;-) Cant believe they have not sent my radio back yet!!

Sent Neil a PM last night about the skins hopefully has some cool designs for the radio.
Oh and BTW my DX3r fits the case nicely too without cutting away any foam. Might just have to pick up a second case for my '3r.

sprint28 12-20-2010 05:49 PM

whats the time line to get our radios back ? I sent mine off a week ago.

Jason said a couple day turn around. So about 3-4 days shipping each way if you paid for good shipping to them plus the two days there you are looking at about 8-10 shipping days.

The Real Dogman 12-21-2010 03:47 AM

that's pretty much what I am doing by posting the progress of my radio, so everyone can see what the time line might look like.
