Default Firmware update on FXR?

So, i bought a used FXR Pro and it has been working 100%.
It was already set up when I got it.

Now I bought the hotwire to set it up myself.
I wanted to set up the custom lipo cut-off so I could get rid of the buzzer.
Being a cautious guy, I didn't trust the lipo cutoff that hasn't been set by me.

When I connected the FXR to the computer I set the custom cut-off to 10.5 or something like that, just to test it, and left the other setings as they were.

When I went to try it out the esc would no work at all! Not even the sound when the esc is turned on.
I thought that it was a gonner and I was another guy with a fried FXR...

I pluged it back to the laptop and went from the custom cutt-off to the 3s, as it was before, and it is working 100% again!

My question is:
The FXR firmware is the 028.
Will I risk it and update the firmware to see if I can setup the custom cutt-off with the new firmware (the 029 or 030?), or wound I be risking frying a working ESC?

Being a relative newcomer to this I would really apreciate your input...

Always flash to the new firmware. There's a reason they go through the trouble of updating it ^_^

I agree. I cant remember what firmware it was but a couple versions ago there were nasty startup issues that have now been resolved, worth the update for sure.

I believe you are paranoid because of the issues with the NovakLink and the M2 ESC...That is a different brand and I have updated both of my FXR's and have not had a problem with either one of them.

Also 10.5 is rather high, cant say why it doesnt work as it should work. I run mine on the safe side and run 3.2-3.3v per cell, I am assuming by your numbers that you are running a 3s pack so try 9.6-9.9v on the cutoff. Who knows why 10.5 doesnt work right, maybe your pack was drained when you hooked it up.

I've heard of weird problems like that with v028. I would definitely update to v030 and it will probably remedy the problem.
