Default Smoked rc4wd wireless winch controller

Something very odd happened to me last night. I removed the rc4wd winch and rc4wd wireless controller from my truck last night. After removing it I wanted to test to make sure it worked before listing it for sale. I plugged everything in correctly (no reverse polarity) and as soon as I hooked up the battery the winch started winding out and the controller began to glow orange and the magic smoke escaped. It has been wired directly to my battery connector since I got it this past October and has been ran exclusively on 3s. I mention that because I was testing it with a 2s when it fried. I know there isn't really anything that can be done it's out of warranty I'm just baffled as to why it died. Winch still works fine I tested it on my other truck.

Similar thing happened to me too. I had the wireless controller connected to my RX' third channel. Worked fine for weeks. Then, one day I drove around and suddenly: booooom. Loud explosion under the hood and the controller went up in smoke. Fried the wires too. I didn't even use the winch at that time. t run my truck on 2s (no BEC installed, since I don't have a heavy duty servo). Everything was wired correctly. I am looking for a heyOK next time I guess...

I went to a servo winch with a heyok controller for my radio. It's much more powerful and doesn't line out if I stop mid pull

I looked into that too, but I have a clod buster body with the motor mounted forward. There is no room under the hood for a second servo unfortunately. But it sounds like the best solution.
Do you run it from a second battery? And if, what kind? A small 3s?

HeyOK is working on producing a wireless winch controller
and is likely what unit I'd buy next, when my rc4wd wireless goes up in smoke.

Working on a new Wireless Winch Controller

looks swell and even includes a useful line brake
of which the RC4WD wireless controller does not have.

pm heyok for more information regarding.

I mounted my servo winch in the rear and made a brake line tube for the winch line to run through to the front. I can get some pics if that doesn't make sense.

Actually it kinda does! But a pic would help How is your servo mounted then? Sideways on the side? Or standing up?

I'll have to double check but I'm pretty sure it doesn't hit or if it does only a little bit. Yes I bent the tube to an angle so it hits as little as possible. I'll check when I get home.

When both shocks are compressed I have about a 1/4 inch clearance between the servo and winch line.

Do sent matter even if it does. ..... line will just slid across top of it. My c3 rig has mounted on pass side boat side in rear. ...... small s tube to get from outside the frame back to the inside the frame ........ gaps all the way across my pan hard and my drag link and out the fairlead. Works just fine. Hard to get pic of it or I would post it.
