| Novak crawler combo http://www.teamnovak.com/products/br...tem/index.html Novak just annouced it's crawler combo. I will let you give your opinion on it before stating mine. MSRP of $350 so it will probably sell for 200-225. They claim to have the first crawler specific brushless motor and combo. sooooo, looks like they havent gotten a crawler yet eh? |

wow, that thing looks huge!!! the motor, the esc, everything.... plus, it's probabally gonna cost a lot more than an outrunner set-up too. it looks lke it might be a tight squeeze on a 2.2 though |

Since they're the "first" to have a brushless motor/ESC for crawling, I wonder what this thing is that I got from Holmes Hobbies? I've had it in my crawler for the last couple of months and I could have sworn it was a BL set up? Guess not. It does have nice BEC #'s 6V 3A. Last edited by dezfan; 07-01-2006 at 10:39 AM. |

I don't see a conventional kV rating. Could be some interesting motors. As of now my Revolver works well in the SW2, they're brutal in the NN. |

The specs on it don't look like the components are any bigger than a regular SS+5800 setup, but I'm sure it's bigger than the Outrunner. I'm kind of doubting it's ability to hold up to crawling, I smoked my SS+ driving my pede on flat ground.

I guess it has tech in it now eh? It IS just like the SS5800 setup, but they added a reverse feature and some programming, and the motor is rewound. Kinda like a 55t lathe motor vs a 27T motor. My question is this, if they just rewound it, then is it even weaker on 6 cells as compared to a 5800? Keeping the same magnetic setup (two magnetic pole, three stator poles) and dropping the windage will slow the motor down, but at a sacrifice of power. The only way to increase the power (or at least keep the same power) and slow the speed down is to increase the rotor size (diameter or length), or increase the pole count and reduce the wind count. It seems as though they have done none of these, so my guess is that it is a pretty weak motor on 6-8 cells for the weight. If the controller would take 12 cells, it would balance back out, but it doesnt. Last edited by JohnRobHolmes; 07-01-2006 at 02:31 PM. |

Hopefully the new crawler (motor+esc) will be as good as the 5800 is,I race touring car and we had to add a new class for the 5800, it is pretty much as fast as a 19t way faster than 27t and not near as fast as mod,but if the crawler set up is as smooth performing and easy to drive as the 5800 is I am all over it! |

WOW rock crawlings getting really big. I seem to notice more crawlers in RCCARACTION too. It would be cool like big named companies came out with kit crawlers. But for 200-300 i could get something else. |

Yeah! Then they'd make RTR's and ruin it!

It's actually a pretty sweet setup. I've been playing with it since January If anyone remembers the Free Crawlin' thread in General with the blurred photos, that's what I was blurring out. It's based on the SS, but has excellent low-speed control, enough torque to blow the JB out of a diff and the CA out of a tire and bust a steel dogbone. Put it on a GD600 and the locked-rotor protection won't ever kick in til your pack dumps. I didn't try it in a TLT due to the carnage it inflicted on my Super. I know it would shred a Pede tranny unless you had EPA adjustments on your transmitter. The Novak Crawler has balls the size of coconuts and twice as hairy. All the wheelspeed you could ask for, too, even with the GD in place. Last edited by microgoat; 07-01-2006 at 05:13 PM. |

now THAT is what i was waiting for Goat! You have been teasing me for a loooong time. So it basically is smooth like a novak sensored for slow crawling, but still has motor speed to bash around too? For dedicated crawlers, would you choose that or a smaller outrunner system? It looks like a great scale basher system in all honesty. Now, did they think about the can length when referencing a clodbuster in the ad? I know my lathe motors were tight enough fit... |

Even w/ the good BEC #'s, you'll need to ESCs for a Clod, correct?

Tell ya what, when my system shows up, I'll take some pics. It seemed a tad longish, like a 550, but I didn't measure it. I may put one in Buster, if the can length permits (remember the OG Buster is a tight fit) just to see what happens. It gave the old Kyosho all the wheelspeed in the world, using nitro gearing and a GD600, with excellent low-speed control and enough torque to drag my fat arse around on an office chair. |

Didn't Dirk build a 2.2 Clod for Novak a while back?
