Default Castle BEC voltage

I am running a Hitec 7954 SH servo. I realize the default voltage is set to 5.1V.

What voltage are you guys running on your BEC?

6-7.4v depending on servo specs.

5.1 sucks, you will want it at no less than 6v, I dont know why Castle doesnt ship them at 6v kinda dumb.

That servo probably a bit more than 6V, but that depends also on how you have the bec ans servo wired.
If bec is powering the rx, you should know how much voltage the rx can handle.
But if straight to the servo then just look what the servo likes.

Thanks guys. I should get myself a Castle link and reprogram this thing. I know the servo can run 7.4V but I think I will try 6V first

+1, I wish CC set the BEC's to 6-6.4volts.

For 7954 & 7950 servo's, I usually run 7.2 volts. I also run direct to the servo, this takes out the question of what my RX can handle.
It also allows the ESC BEC to power the electronics and the external BEC to just power the servo.

I have a flysky receiver does anyone know the voltage that will take?

My guess is that it is easier for you to connect the BEC power output to servo directly. Only the servo signal wire will go to the reciever.

I bought this wire from HH, I think this powers my servo direct from BEC?

So that's effectively a double end on the female side, one for signal, one for power?

Your Bec ans servo plug into the double side single side goes to reciever. If you look at the picture you see the loop of red and back wire in the back of the double side that is sending the power straight from Bec to Servo. You only need the signal wire(yellow) to go to the reciever however with the connector it has the ground going as well which helps eleminate grounding issues(noise).

I was just about to order some, but the shipping works out a little pricey, $32

Damn, they looked good as well.

When running mine set up like this the servo got pretty dang hot, I could hold my finger on it for 7-8 seconds or so and that was about it. I ended up breaking the gears in my hitech 7955hs and went to a 7950th and changed the wiring to battery->BEC->receiver as the BEC instructions say to do and now I can not even tell that the the servo or receiver are the slightest bit warm.

There should be no difference in heat generated, the servo does not care where it gets power as long at it gets power.

Makes since. There might have been a loose connection causing the servo to get hot or maybe the gears were to tight since they did break.

That servo is designed to take close to 9V (a fully charged 2S LiPo) without problems, so why settle with as low as 7.4V stabilised?

In the long run the servo will last longer if its not maxed out on voltage.

I run mine at 6.5v generally.

Simon, we can ship with cheaper options for parts not containing sensitive electronics. Since 99% of our orders contain motors and ESCs we generally only offer the more secure and safe methods on the site. Send an email to me through RCC or my website and we can get you set up with cheap shipping.

Agreed. I've ran 8.4 for a long time now.
