Default Rockslide dual batteries

Hi as we don't have access to all the serious crawlers here in South Africa i went the Redcat Rockslide Super Crawler route and so far so good
The question i have though is that on their website they advertise a Y connector to link two 7.2V batteries in series giving you a total of 14.4V - can this be ? Can the esc and receiver handle this voltage ?

A quick search didn't find any ESC info. What you're describing is similar to a 3S LiPO, likely OK for the ESC.
The ESC has an internal BEC that will power the RX, thus usually not an issue.

I'm far from an expert on this stuff but isn't 14.4v closer to 4s? I think most stock ESCs aren't good for more than 3s, if that... Then again it sounds like you're talking about NiMH batteries too, so that may make a difference. Although to me volts are volts. Try to find some specs on your ESC before you try that. Unless you have money for a new ESC if it fails.

The Redcat manual lists the maximum input voltage for the E401 ESC at 9.6v but show the E403 Y-harness (series) in the manual for both of their crawlers. I've had moderate luck with running my RS-10 on 3s lipo (11.1v), I burned up one esc and have two others with over 2 yrs of use on them and never miss a beat. It's up to you if you want to risk over-volting it. Otherwise stick to 2s lipo (7.4v) or max of 8 nimh cells (9.6v).

E401 ESC:
E401

Hope that helps.

ESC are 8.4, at least that is our rule of thumb over in the RA10 sub-forum (join us), though many of us run 9.6 packs (myself included) and never have an issue. you can run a parallel Y adapter and maintain the same voltage (both red to red, both black to black) rather then running a series adapter which would combine the voltage (black from one pack to red on the other pack). but reallu i woudl suggest getting a good charger (i recently got the ECO6 form hobby king for 20 bucks USD) and i high MAH 2s lipo.

Thanx for the replies guys
The guys from Redcat go tback to me stating that the adapter as advertised is confusing and the batteris should be in parralel and not series - i thought so
I have already gone the parralel route a few months ago when i swapped the 200mah NiMh out for two 3600 6c NiMh batteries - lot more torque and longer playtime
