I have an AE-2 and have run it with 3s and had no ill effects. I do have a BEC routed to my steering servo, and the internal BEC only powers the receiver.

I ran 3s on mine all the time before switching to a BR-XL. I even hooked up a 4s once, but I can't recommend doing that.

I actually ran one of my 800mah 40c sky lipo 3s packs I use for my XR10 in my Wraith for a few minutes. I was afraid I'd puff the pack more than anything else. It would pull a wheelie with 27t Axial motor and 56/12 gearing. The motor is on it's way out so figured I'd have some fun

The guy may have messed with the esc. But I bought a scx-10 used and it came with a 3s. Thats all I run. It's gets a lil hot but I got a cooling fan on it. When i run a 2s it cuts out bad. That could have been caused by running 3s but it does fine with a 3s.

I might try this today, I put my VXL system in and ran 3s on my scx10 but it was ridiculous. I've been researching a 3s lipo on the AE-2 esc for a while now, and I get probably 50/50 results, some say don't try, some say go ahead no problem. Most of the positive results have been with a BEC though.

87/20 + 27t + 3S in most trucks =

It depends on what motor you have. If you have the same one I have (stock Axial 27t) then I wouldn't expect it to run for long on 3S. If it's an aftermarket motor then you might have better luck. I'd be sure to contact the motor guys and see what they recommend for voltage on a particular motor.

I run 3s on a 2s esc (xl5). I geared down and watch temps, and it works great. The Titan 21t and esc stay well below 140.

So what would happen if you threw a 3s in, without the BEC?

Castle BEC's are what ~95% of us use.......I guess that's a good thing.
