Default 3S lipos too hard on brushed motors?

my firend and I got both Holmes hobbies torquemaster motors, he run his on 3S and I run mine on 2S...he told me today that he has to clean up the contacts on the rotor before almost every runs he does because they have black spots on them..(like spark spots) I checked mine just for fun and they are clean as they could be...we both run at the same places and we never go in the water....could it be the 3S batteries too hard on the motor?

Most people here run 3s on their brushed motors, some run 4s or higher. I doubt that is what is causing his problems...

I would have him contact holmes and see what he says although I bet he will see this and put in his comments.

+1.....I have 2 MOA's running brushed on 3S, my son has the same. We do routine maintenance but NOT every run.

Not sure what the OP issue is unless they're running in mud or lots of dust/sand.

I ran my TM for nearly a year before I checked the brushes or pulled it apart to clean it out. All that time it was on 3s.

I have this same problem, mine is timed according to JRH's recommendations. I ran it for the first time today on 3s and it crapped out 1/3 through a run. :(

I have been running one pair of brood motors on 3s and 4s for 4 years without so much as opening the can or looking at the brushes. No issues out here.

3s is harder on motors than 2s. I would suggest that the timing is checked and that a clean motor is a happy motor.

Might wanna check gearing....if you guys are running the same gearing, but you are on 3s, you should be running a smaller pinion or bigger spur.....motors geared wrong will burn up faster.....sometimes they will blow up.

Maybe put some new brush springs on. If its ever been overheated, spring tension will be lower thus causing the brushes to bounce and arc on the comm. before you know it there will be crud between the brush and comm making a poor path for electricity. Just a thought and good luck.

How is he cleaning the comm? If he's using sand paper or something similar he's probably creating his own problem.
