Default Tekin FX-R problem.

Just got a Tekin fxr on my SCX10 and got it all situated and installed. Calibrated it, set it in the settings. It works for a minute then the motor stops. ESC shows signal and responds to inputs, steering still works. Adjusting settings doesn't make the chime sound. If I turn it off for a minute it will work fine, then have the same problem again. Everything is hooked up correctly, double checked. No wires pinched or cut. Any ideas what may be going on?

Set to 6 volt 2S. That's what my battery is. My stock esc did the same thing, that's why I got the fxr. Now it is doing the same thing

Sounds like its not an esc problem. I'd find a motor that you know works and check it. May be the motor going bad.

I'll try the stock motor. The motor in it now is a brand new 55T.

One of 3 things can be the problem...
  1. The ESC is bad, doesnt sound like it if your old esc did the same thing
  2. The motor is bad (the motor is actually what makes the chime sounds)
  3. The connection from the ESC to Motor is bad

With some swapping of parts it should become obvious what is causing the problem.

4. The battery is to small or has a bad cell.
5. Brownout due to no BEC.

Do I need a BEC? 2S 5000mAh, 25C lipo, balanced regularly. Never had this kind of problem, much less on two different ESCs. Going to swap motors today and see. At least it is raining this morning, good time to wrench.

Installed a CC 10Amp BEC. Same result. On the fxr there is a temperature display. It gets hot in like two minutes and shuts off the motor. It isnt over geared and nothing is binding. Tekin suggests sending it in to check it out. It's like brand new. Any other ideas?

Under normal use it only blinks the on and flashes the temp range. But the temp range goes up fast and thermal shutdown happens till it cools. I changed motors back to the stock and recalibrated and just to check went with default options ( voltage cutoff OFF) and no problem. As soon as I changed the settings and used lipo cutoff (2S) it went back to shutting down and getting hot. I know I can get an hour plus on a pack and I rarely crawl that long continuously, so I may just turn it off and keep an eye on the voltage or get a voltage alarm.

What gearing are you using? And which lights are coming on? 1 and 3, 1 and 4....etc.

Need to know gearing of your rig? What motor are you running? Do you have Hotwire? check your connections. Do you have the cap on? Is it working correctly?

When the lights flash lights 1-5 flash. But not the error flash mentioned in the manual. I have a 15T pinion and stock spur 87 or 89 I think.

I am confused here. What error are you referring to from the manual?

I believe he is reffering to the error list on the setup page of the manual.

I know that. He is saying it's flashing 1-5 but not the error from the manual. 1-5 is an error code from the manual.
