Default Hitec Servo Caps FYI

Hi, broke one side of the mount cap on a new 7954s [@90 minutes run time]. Hitec Service department did respond to email and said cases are not warranted. Their reply did not state year warranty is void when servo is opened as stated in the information sheets included in servo package. Also a link for a replacement case was provided.

I bought a product with a good quality reputation but was unaware of some fine print. FYI

Some RC friends have never heard of a ear or tab breaking off while others admit the case plastic on Hitec are a brittle type. I just picked up the rig from its side and let it drop to the ground waist high and she broke. A case is in the mail provided by the LHS. Thanks.

I HAD TO MAKE A BIGGER MOUNT!.

Mock up and good to go.

And that's why you drop it on all fours instead of its side. It look slike a bad batch of plastic for that case. I've had my 5955 for 2 or 3 years and haven't had a problem.

Hmmmm.....1st broken HiTec case I've seen. Was it cold out? If so, almost ANY plastic we use gets brittle when cold and will NOT handle shock loads well.

I will also guess you will be asking about replacement servo arms at some point, even the 7954 will strip out the plastic horn at some point.

I suggest a GHRacing (AKA, Golden Horizons Racing) clamping style aluminum horn. It's ~$8.

Ive had 2 7950's and a 7990 do the same thing, except I actually had a hole in the side of one of the 7950's.
Its plastic, its gonna break. Just depends on the drop or in my case frontal impact.

Spent time reviewing other servo brands before choosing Hitec, Felt covered by the assurance of year warranty, strong metal gears, reasonable torque running at 6 volts 333oz, can handle 7.4 volts, I just did not know or hear that cases are not covered, it is not the money.

I have sent in Servos with broken tabs and they replaced them. I am sure they are more worried about someone opening the servo up themselves. On a side note I tumbled my 8 pound super off of a cliff down about 40 feet. Broke 4 revo ends, 2 links, bent lots of screws but the servos all held up fine. I would not not write off hitec over this. I have broken JR cases from just tightening screws.

Have no intention to write off Hitec and will use their products, like no problem.
