Default How to determine a motors turn?

Is there a way to bench test a motor to determine its turn count?
I ask because I'm getting conflicting information about what turn an exceed mad torque stock motor is. Some people say it's 60t and others say it's 70t.

The best you could do is to determine its kv rating, but that varies so much between manufacturers that you couldn't pin an actual turn count on it.

Shoulda told him to unwind it and count.

Don't assume I didn't think about it. That was honestly the first thing that came to mind.

So basically there's no way to determine it unless it was originally specified?

Yep. Doesn't really matter though, either is a terribly slow motor. Chuck it in the trash and get something better.

The issue is that my axles are geared at around 40 to 1 with a 12t pinion. And I can only go as low as an 11t pinion. So with the stock motors and a 12t pinion I can go around 5.5 mph but I get really bad clodstall when crawling, so I wanted to go with a higher turn.

I've never owned a MOA, so I can't tell you much about solving Clodstall, but I know there are several different tricks to getting rid of it. IMO throwing in slower motors is not the answer if you are unhappy with its speed. Especially since there are many people running 35t in their MOAs.

I'm fine with the speed and probably still would be if it was a little slow, it's not a comp rig. I just want to help get rid of clod stall without running 2 escs, different pinion gears front and rear, etc.
Guess I'll do some searching and decide from there.

It's a MOA, either deal with it or do something to fix it.

Fixes are:
Dual ESC's
Different tooth counts front/rear
Different winds front/rear

Best option is dual ESC's with a radio that allows setting front/rear proportional.

As to determining motor winds WITHOUT unwinding it, there is no way for most individuals to do it. Even a shop like Holmes or Br00d really don't have a good way.

Measure the wire gauge, measure the inductance, measure the resistance. Based on the wire diameter a good guess can be made, but knowing the wind doesn't really do much good.

You will get less stall with higher quality motors. At the very least an armature with a 5mm web is a better choice than the stock sealed cans, like my TorqueMaster brand.
