Neither of those esc's have a drag brake, you'll want one for crawling. And for a servo, lookinto the hitec 5646wp digital servo. Get a castle Creations 10amp bec, and plasti dip it. Set it for 7.4 volts and a monster comes out of that servo. For an esc, i recamend the castle Sidewinder sv3. Set it to brushed and 213% rockcrawler dragbrake, and you'll love it.

My initial thoughts are that those ESC's are not designed for crawling. They have a very week BEC (not an issue if you plan on running an external CC BEC),they look to be limited to 2s operation, and there is no mention of them having a drag brake which is a deal breaker on it's own IMO. The Savox would be fine for average 1.9 crawling (actually provides 222 oz/in of torque @ 6V), but I wouldn't even consider anything under 150 oz/in of torque even if you are just planning on babying the rig.

For ESC's I'd go with a Tekin FXR or Holmes BRXL. Don't be overly frugal with electronics on a crawler. A good and properly setup ESC and an adequate servo are at the core of a rig being able to provide a pleasureable crawling experience.

For a servo and be waterproof I would look at the Hitec 5645wp. TowerHobbies.com | Hitec HS-5646WP Digital Waterproof HV MG Dual BB Servo

And for esc the sidewinderv3.

Look on Holmes hobbies, he will waterproof just about anything for you i believe.

I like the sidewinder sv3, im having trouble finding it though. Does HH warrant their waterproofing?

Have you looked into the sv3? it is waterproofed from castle. i know brushless is not as good for crawling but i am looking at puttig one in my scx10 when i can get one. i was running a 19t brushed on the stock esc on a 3s. worked great. but they stopped making the motors. so time try out the new system.
i have tried a goat 3s. and i wouldtell everyone to leave it on the shelf. no good for trail running or crawling. drag brake blows. it will roll down a hill and if you hit the brake it will roll over the noise it will brake so hard. lol.

The stock esc worked great for me and the sv3 is still kinda based on it but changed. so i am hoping it all works out.
my buddy has the xl-5 and it works good but no drag brake or setup really. so it will be hard to hold it on a hill.

as for waterproof servro' i have not had much luck. the hitec one works ok. but i still have stripped the teeth on everyone i have put in. i am looking for a gear to replace the one that strips. the middle gear that is in mess with output gear.

The sv3 is identical to the sv2, only it's factory waterproofed..and the stock axial ae2 esc is based off these esc'd...and with a castle link, the sv2/sv3 will run brushed motors...and the drag brake can be adjusted up to 213% i believe...I run an sv3 in my mog with a Holmes Hobbies 40t brushed motor on 3s..I also had an sv2 for quite a while till my son got it wet...but it was a great esc...my sv3 is also very nice..

I would get the SV3 esc. No to Servox servo. I would look at getting aleast 300oz + servo. I also look into getting a castle bec. It will help esc live longer if you plan on using 3s lipo's.

I run fx-r in all my rigs. For water proof, but never submerged, I just coated all but the window of the case with plasti dip.. Been a year in all conditions an no problems.
As for a servo, 300+ is a must a far as I'm concerned. Smallest I run is 333 oz, in my scaler, which is on its way to 403 oz.. All hitec for me..

Keep an eye on the for sale section, all mined were bought used for cheap..
Cheap make of electronics gets you nowhere but back to the lhs for a second one, which costs you more in the long run.
Always a bec

150 is not sufficient for crawling, but would be fine in other types of vehicles. Keep an eye on the for sale section here and rctech. I landed a Futaba 9157 for $50 shipped in excellent condition (425oz) A little overkill for my Exo but why not

It's becomming increasingly more common for people to drop the strongest standard servo they can find in their scalers but lets be honest, suggesting that 300 oz/in is a bare minimum for the average 1.9 scaler coming in to the hobby is outrageous IMO. My Hitec 5645 (a puny 164 oz/in) is doing an absolute fine job in my scx10. I never find my rig limited by it's torque, nor have I ever felt like it needed more in any instance. The need for such a torquey servo boils down to how heavy your rig/tires are and how mindless you plan to drive it.

I have a sub 300oz servo on a heavily moded NightCrawler, and it bent my steering linkage.
I had to mod the stock steering with some 1/4" aluminum rod.

Good call on the holmes hobbies waterproofing. I no longer have to look for waterproof servos. Ill definitely scan the for sale sections too.
