| Tekin RS Pro question
Do I really have to run the power cap if I have a CC BEC installed on this ESC? Never ran any Tekin stuff before and dont want to fry this thing. |

Also, has anyone waterproofed one of these before and if so how did you do it?

YES YES YES.. You have to run the cap or you will have problems. Simple enough. Most speed controls have a cap installed, it is just under the cover. All the CC BEC does is take the load off of the internal power supply in the speed controller. These high torque servos will pull 5+ amps of current, easily. This over heats the internal power supply and can cause failure of the speed controller, in some cases. I havne't seen any one water proof one of these yet. I have my Tekin RS installed in an old servo box. Like the plastic one that my BLS157 futaba servo was in. Velcroed the box to the chassis, then double side taped the speed controller and CC BEC inside the box. Drilled a couple holes to run the wires, and put some clear silicon on the openings to seal them up. Then I put the cover on and use electrical tape to seal the top on the box. If I need to remove, pull the velcro and the whole thing comes out all at once. The next one will be a full electronics package in the box. If you were going to try and water proof it, I would suggest looking up corrosion-X. There are a bunch of guys that have used this product on their pro4 motors and Mamba Max Pro Speed Controllers. My only concern would be keeping water off the big terminals, that also act as heat sinks, on the speed controller. May be a challenge to get enough of a coating on them. Would be worth trying though. Hope this helps. |

First I soaked it in a corrosionX bath. Then I covered the entire board & between the top & bottom boards with dielectric grease. Put it back in the case & covered the posts with dielectric grease too. No problems being submerged since. | |

I took the case off mine and sprayed with conformal coating, then re-cased it and dipped it in Plastidip twice with the sensor wire plugged into the ESC. It's been under water many times.
