Question Weird ass motor issue!!

Alrite rc gurus, i got one for ya! My buddy has a tamiya hilux/axial hybrid. Cool ass rig. Tamiya looks with axial funtionality. Anyway, in searchof more wheelspeed than the rooster/55t integy combo was giving, he pulled the motor, & dropped in a non-labeled 16t sealed can motor. Thing goes like a stabbed rat, for about 5 mins. Here's the weirdass part. After the 5 mins or so, the wire on the posistive terminal of the motor, gets so hot, it melts the solder, & pops right off! The roosteris staying cool throughout. The wires are about average gauge, like ya get with an fxr. He's runnin a 2s lipo. Not sure what C-rate they are. And don't know why mah would matter. They vary. Happens with any of'em. Anyone out there know what's goin on here? I've hada ton of different esc's, & runnem with many different lipo packs, & have never even heard of this! Thanks all.

If nothings bound up then it could be a gearing issue or the low turns on the motor.

Did you change the gearing when you swapped in this motor?

No eddie, all the gearing is the same as with the 55t. I've made big motor changes before without anything close to a result like this. I'm dubious about the generic can motor tho. Still, what can a motor have wrong with it that'd cause that?

Is the motor can itself getting super hot? Even if it has huge wires on it, if the solder joint or motor tab has too much resistance, it can still overheat....

You may have a bad connection on the motor wires. With my experience with tamyia connectors, that could be a problem. And i might just be the fact that you are over the esc's motor turn limit.

The motor is massively overgeared.....55t gearing to a 16t? I dunno why people think this is ok, to just drop a much faster motor in the truck and hope all will be good. A 16t is no car or truck is going to run the same gearing as a 55t.

I can tell you, the motor is getting hot because its overgeared. You probably have shorted it, so now its going to overheat the moment you apply power to it. There was likely nothing wrong with the motor before it was installed.

I agree with the motor man himself. Sounds like gearing at first and probably motor and gearing now.

What spur and pinion is he running on it? Just for kicks. I hope you don't say 80t and 20t or even close to that.

It was a 87t spur and a 20t pinion

Don't know the internal ratio of your gearbox, but in most other trucks that would be massively overgeared for a 16t....I am guessing even in your truck it geared to the moon.
