| Soldering Deans onto a LiPo. How's it look?
So, yesterday and today I took the plunge and started learning how to solder. Yesterday I did the male connection and ended up with this: Today I did the battery. Knowing how scary LiPo's are if you don't treat them right, lets say I was a little nervous. I think I came out all right, but I wanted to consult the forum before I put it on the charger. Here's a few shots of the female end: I feel pretty good about the joints. They feel strong, despite not being ultra pretty. I wish the battery came with just a slightly more managable size of wire. The deans sure look small next to those giant cables. Let me know the verdict. I'd like to throw a balance charge on this thing. |

Looks good to me. Make sure its red to red and black to black. Just be glad you don't have micro deans. Those are a beeyotch. |

It is best to connect both connectors together when you solder. It helps dissipate the heat and if the plastic does get a bit soft, it keeps the connections lined up. Or at least that is how I do it.

I put the connectors together as well......now anyways. I had a few "chinese" deans distort badly. I use only real deans now and they are much better! |

Looks better than my first attempts! Just remember the #1 safety rule when working with battery wires: Only ever have 1 exposed at a time. Strip one, tin it, solder it. Then do the other. It ensures they never short together.

As above . Never leave them exposed even when soldering the other . Not worth it . Looks good bud . Jack. |

Next time you might try squeezing the tinned wire ends with duck billed pliers to flatten it some. Increases the mated surface area and streamlines (less blob) the finished joint.
