| Novak crawler brushless motor
I am VERY new to crawlers. Just picked up a wraith kit and am in the process of building it. I am taking my time with it and I am doing basic upgrades right out of the box. It has all metal gears in t-case, and a few other do-dads. I am gearing for very slow moving with a 87/13. I was looking at the Novak 21.5t brushless sensored motor and was wondering if it was worth my while. I am not trying to spend $150 on a tekin ROC of I don't have to. I will be using a 70a dynamite esc and if that doesn't work well I may step up to a mamba max pro. Any thoughts on a high torque brushless crawler motor?

from what I have gathered roaming around the forums here a lot of people say away from Novak elect. if I was going for another motor look at Holmes hobbies. John has some great motors and they are very reasonably priced. also for a lot more info than you can think of go down to the wraith forum and there is a sticky that Harley has on motors and gearing its well worth the read on my wraith I went with a Holmes hobbies 55t torque master handwound |

The Novak motors seems okay, but for slow crawling use a brushed motor!

I have a Hobbywing Xerun 21.5T BL sensored motor in mine, however i'm geared lower than yours...93/12 with 43/13's. It crawls great. However, if you want it to wheel like a comp crawler, then you have to go with a brushed motor.

Timbuk2\13.5\2S in my Wraith currently, has worked fine for me. THe ESC makes a few R2D2 sounds at low RPM but overall feels nice and smooth, and good top end. No issues with the motor at all - feels like my other brushed setups really. I've run other Novak motors with various ESCs in my speedier set-ups without issue. Ironically, I'm bumping up to a 3100kv ROC motor set-up, but only as I'm looking for a little more speed. the Novak is going over to my SCX actually where I can actually get my fat fingers on the programming buttons. |

For less than $200 you can have a mmp and a 3656sd.

OSRC...what gearing are you running and how much run time do you get?

Unknown on the gearing. Second owner, and know it's converted to 32p but didn't bother to count. Can let you know when I tear it down (tonight most likely, roc's coming tomorrow). As far as runtime, I've never dumped a battery yet. Run 4000mah packs and have wheeled for 45 minutes without dumping. Slower technical stuff with a few full throttle bursts. Not sure if that helps or not. |
