| Quick question on modding CPU power supply
I have a model okia 450w. Do I have to connect all the red wires black wires and such or can you just use say 4-5 of each. I'm lost on this as the thread here says use them all but I've read some others where they aren't using all of them. It is a atx in case you were wondering and ill post a pic of it. Thanks for the help in advance. |

Join the green one(power on) to a black one so it turns on straight away when you hit the built in power switch, and then just use a few of each color... snip off or desolder the rest. Just watch those capacitors near the red/black wires as they might still be charged. Orange = 3.3v Red = 5V Yellow = 12V Black = Ground Green = power-on (connect to ground) http://pinouts.ru/Power/atxpower_pinout.shtml Last edited by Tzi; 09-20-2013 at 05:52 AM. |

What Tzi said: Use all of the yellow ones for the 12V, and an equal amount of the black ones. Then you can use one red and black to feed the cooling fan.

I use them in groups of 3 or so and make multiple outputs. same with the 5v rail, and added a female usb pigtail to one and various other rc related pigtails 1 for my servo tester another as a rx male output plug for testing various radio functions. I leave an rx (old am) permanently hooked up to another for testing led setups or whatever and i can charge my phone while in there.

Ok everything works flawless. Did not use load resistor but hooked to LEDs up and have 12 volts and 5 amps but still have a problem with USB as it won't power on my phone. Do I need to do anything with the green and yellow wire coming off of the USB plug. I know it works cause I tested it before I tore it all apart. In case you need to know I have the two LEDs and the USB pulling off of a single red and black wire.
