DX7 horrible battery life?

I have a DX7 that I really like, but it has horrible, horrible battery life. I have 2 packs for it, a 1500mah nimh, and a 600mah nicad, the nicad was factory battery and it has been terrible from the start. the nimh i bought maybe a year ago and it has never held a charge very well. any one have any insight on this?

switch to lipo? you just need to keep an eye on voltage if your radio doesnt have a lipo mode.

I have a different spektrum tx but it's a battery hog as well. Even with a lipo its only good for a dozen or so packs. With the original 8AA it was beeping after an hour. My 4PL will go for several months on 4AA so it must be a spektrum thing.

I was curious so I googled it. They use a dx6 in the write up but say that it works with a dx7 as well.

Excellent search & find. I like this article as well... A beginner's guide to switching regulators that was in the link you posted.

This mod is similar to what is done on the GT3B, VR swap to run longer on the battery.
