im running a BRXL WP and a HH torquemaster 35t pro on 3s with 16/87 gearing, gobs of torque, wheel speed is about same as a 27t 20/87gearing on 2s (stock honcho). the thing that amazed me the most is how this motor can creep, so much control and so responsive. In other words im VERY happy.

+1 on a 35 turn motor with 3s I personally prefer Castle esc's for the easy programming (maybe it's just what I'm used to). If you want waterproof the sidewinder sv3 is a great option.

my post was brushed....the BRXL is brushed only....the SV3 the other gentleman was speaking of is brushed/brushless unsensored. if u prefer brushless u would want sensored brushless if u plan on crawling at all

yes I should have specified that I was running brushed with that combo. you don't want to even bother trying to crawl anything with unsensored brushless.

The Tekins are nice and small but the BR-XL and Castle products seem to have less issues and are more powerful.

Bang for the buck is an axial ae2 with a integy 35 turn motor on 3s. Good solid combo if you remember to check the brushes and lube the bearings occasionally.

Not to be rude but I can't say it enough. Holmes hobbies brxl waterproofed,35t sport,3s power. You will only have to spend the money once and you'll be covered for good. Under water or over the rocks you will be much happier than the tekin set-up. Of course you will have a good motor to upgrade when rebuild time comes and Holmes hobbies will take care of that, their customer service is the best.

Not rude at all I appreciate the input. But I have a 100$ credit with towerhobbies so I'd like to get the motor from them I know I could use the credit on other things but the crawler is my second hobby I don't want to dump to much in to soon. I'm a 1/5 scale guy so I have enough money wrapped up in my baja's right now hahah

Big X2 for a good low-buck option, but be sure to give the Integy a good commutator cut. Once that is done they seem to be pretty descent motors.

Well I am going to throw my hat in the ring for the brushless side of things. I could not me more happy with my Mamba Max Pro and Novak 18.5 combo in my SCX10. I have had numerous hard-core brushed guys comment how smooth it is (actually made a few converts). I also have options, I can larger pinion for more speed, or smaller pinion for longer runtime with no ill effects from heat (can't remember which way is gear up, or down). Also with the MMP I have plenty of battery options 2s to 4s (5s and up is just nuts...IMO), and if I want to go brushed MMP handles that as well.

With a 16T pinion and stock spur, I can get about 3 hours out of my 1800 3s battery. Thats being hard on things, 4 hours if I am easy.

I just think the power, efficiency, minimal maintenance, tuning options is well worth it.

Big Note! It is not a good combo if you are wanting to submerge in water or mud! It can be done, but if that is your intension...go brushed.
