Default 5mm LEDs- Wide or narrow angle?

I am going to be wiring up some LEDs to put in the stock light buckets in my new wraith. Does anyone know if it really matters if you use wide (120 degrees I believe) or narrow (40 degrees) LEDs?

I don't really expect it to throw much light, even with the narrow LEDs. SO I am thinking go with the wides to make sure I light up the whole light bucket.

What do you guys think?

You might be surprised with how much lights the LEDs actually give off. I'd go wide though personally just so you can see more of your surrounding if you decide to take a little nighttime run

Some of the narrow LEDs (at Radio Shack for example) are a lot less than 40 degrees, which I think are too narrow. Anything in the ranges you listed would be fine IMO. I think the more important part is how bright they are (more lumens = brighter).

I would recommend narrow if you are actually looking for light. the wide don't project light very far at all and will seem "dim" but great for projects you just want the look of lights on from any angle, but not actually looking to light up the area in front of you.

most all LEDs you buy are narrow. typically the wide have a flat or cone concave end on them. the narrow have the standard round end.

or best yet, buy both, LEDs are so cheap. wire them up and do a side by side comparison and decide whats best for you.

I've seen my best results running (Narrow) (Wide) (Wide) (Narrow) for headlights.
