| HS 5955 and 7955 at 6.5V?
looking to get a little more out of my servos. obviously there only rated for 6 volts. but has anyone ran them at 6.5v or so? any trouble with heat or burning them out or anything? |

I run my 7955s on 7 volts. The the hitec factory pilots fly them on 7.4v.

Good to know. How long have you run it like that? I might bump up my bec if life won't suffer.

Most servo's can run at higher voltage then they're rated at. I don't have a servo running less than 7.4 volts and my cheapie D772 servo's are at 8 and 8.4 volts with no issue in the last year+ of service.

You'll see a lot of radio gear rated at 6v because that was the nominal voltage for a 5-cell nimh receiver pack (1.2v/cell). When the receiver pack was fully charged you could see 1.4-1.5v/cell with a pack voltage of 7-7.5volts. It's probably not a safe assumption for ALL electronics but on my stuff that's rated for 6v I set my bec at 7v. No failures yet.

that has always been my argument as well. (im a pilot as well) on old school receiver packs before electrics and BECs, you ran a 5 cell(NiCad/nimh) and they were 6.5-7v coming off the charger and when fresh. HV didn't exist then and all servos were rated at 6v. same goes for HV servos running straight 2S(lipo) servos are rated at 7.4v, but a 2S when charged is 8.4v. john looks like you are saying what im saying. good to know. time to get some more oz and speed without shelling out money for a bigger servo. |

I just bumped up my 7955 to 7.2v and tried about 2 hours of crawling. Works much better! I'm much happier with that servo on that rig now. I was still able to stall it a bunch though... I got the solution for that though. HS-M7990TH on order! 611 oz at 7.4v. Funny thing did happen though. As soon as I plugged the battery up with the BEC at 7.2 volts, the servo just clicked for about 20 seconds, and so did the BEC, and then bam, everything snapped back to life. Weird. |
