I've got that motor. Its a good motor, but at least mine, doesn't like the water / mud.
I would recommend the traxxas 21t titan 550 motors. Can be picked up under $20 good for up to 4s batts and are tough as nails. I've had mine submerged in water. Run through mud..
I will say, whatever motor you pick up, get electronic safe / plastic safe spray. I get mine at Walmart $4.50 a can. Spray out the motor after you get it all mucked up.

stay away from brushless I think as they are a little more sensitive towards mud/water unless you water treat the motor and cover the sensor port and corrosionx the board. If you stay brushed they just need a spray out w cleaner and are rebuildable if you buy a good motor.

One advantage sensor brushless motors have over brushed is that once waterproofed, they are maintenance free... because the cans are/can be sealed.
I've been running Pro4's in my trucks for a couple seasons in all types of situations and have never opened them after the initial waterproof.

Awesome thought I was the only one that did this, for $20 it's almost work the cost to not have to rebuild and just throw em out. I might have to give the brushless a chance someday though.

I'd stick with a brushed motor...
but put a filter sock over it.

Clean water does not harm brushed motors.
It's the debris and metal contaminants that will kill it.

Water will cause the brushes to wear more quickly tho'

I'm new. Is this a commonly sourced item, or what is used to make one?

something like this

google "electric motor pre-filter" for more

you could probably make your own.

back in the day...
it was common to find a foam type filter
that would fit the motor can as well.

anything that is breathable and will surround the motor's endbell/can
but leave the mounting surface free.

15mph on a 2s would be about a 12-15 turn motor. Decent speed, but lacking in torque. Not a good choice for a mud truck, IMO
Stick with the traxxas 21t and go 3s or even 4s!!

Putting nice $50 motors in a water rig is a waste of money IMO. CHEAP 27t brushed motor and two more on hand, use pantyhose for the cover filter, spray the motor with brake cleaner after done submerging. Brushless is a poor choice for a water rig.

I've ran velenion and castle 3800's for years with no problems. I oil the bearings after every run which takes 2 secs then I replace them every couple of months. Great motors for rigs that need more speed then control. Plus on 3s both of them will sling some mud.

This technique works good for me. Except the brake clean. I think it breaks the internals down faster. Just blow it out with compressed air when you're done. Then dip each end of your motor in whatever oil you choose. Don't submerge...just enough to lube your bearings/bushings
