Default Holmes Brushless combo stutters ?

I just installed a new Holmes hobbies BLE-Pro & Trailmaster sport 540 into my Deadbolt. I have programmed it per the HH instruction sheet. I have tried both "Brushless" and "Smart sence brushless" and the motor just shakes. If you floor it, it will start but, not with ANY slow speed control.
Once moving, it has balls but, it won't go slow.

The motor to ESC wires are matched ABC to ABC. I have tried two different sensor wires.

Funny part is, It does pretty good in reverse.

Any ideas ?

Your wires are shorted on the motor can, or your ABC/ABC are not correct.

Reverse the motor direction via the esc programming and then reverse channel 2 on your transmitter. That will fix your issue.

Thumbs up Re: Holmes Brushless combo stutters ?

I have had the same exact issue with 2 Holmes hobbies trail master motors paired up with a mamba max pro esc! I ended up just running a Team Tekin Roc412 2300. Never had any problems with the Tekin motor

So I've now updated the firmware, tried the ESC rotation / trans rev swap and it's still crrap. On my work stand with the tires off the bench, I can get it to go. If I grab a tire while it's running it will start stuttering or start running in the other direction.

Baffled !

I bought a used Reedy Sonic 17.5 that did the same thing and it ended up being the sensor board, a new board from Reedy and it was running fine. If your wiring checks out the sensor wires are good you may have just gotten a bad motor. If you can, test the Holmes motor on another ESC and/or another known good motor on the Holmes ESC.

Chipgibbs just wondering where your start power set at. I've got my wife's yeti the HH BLE and the HH Pro-Puller BL 540xl 5300kv and I have her start power on high and the sensored only with stock gearing at has smooth start up and crawling ability.

I have the motor out of the truck and connected to the esc. With the motor in one hand & the transmitter in the other, I can stop the pinion with two fingers and it just stutters. It almost seems disconnected from the rotor. I also tried a Known working Novak brushless motor and it worked fine.

Guess I gotta get a return authorization from RPP.

I'm for sure no expert but it really sounds like a bad phase in the esc. Like it is shorted out or damaged from shorting out somehow.

He tested another motor on the ESC to verify it was functional.

This was probably the TrailMaster Sport motor. The last batch had some changes to the sensors that I didn't approve, and many just don't run right. We have been giving free upgrades to TrailMaster Pro motors, which start extremely smooth and don't have this stutter problem. If you haven't returned it to RPP, please send it to us and we will exchange it for you.

We have also requested all our retailers return any inventory left on their shelves for exchanges or refunds, and most have at this point.
