Question Overheating Tekin Fx-R with Tekin 55T HD on TF2...

Running a Tekin Fx-R with Tekin 55T HD on a 2S Lipo. Not an uncommon setup, pavement pounding showed no issues during the typical first setup tests. Took it to the park today and it was great for about a half hour, running through grass, beach sand etc, went back on the hard pack trail and then the big slowdown and shutoff. No splishy-splashy promo shots, just normal off-roading. The ESC reads hot, but ye ol' finger test read less then warm, with cool motor and battery.

Radio/receiver is a Spektrum DX4C w/ SRS4210 (AVS-off) and running SAVOX 0231MG waterproof servos dialed in for throw.

Only thing I can think of is that the servo's are pulling all some amps, but with 2S setup a BEC is not necessarily required.

Savox are power hungry. I always run an external bec.

Think again. And you have two of them.

Well when you put it like that MW...

So I was on the money thinking it was the servos thanks for the confirmation @WT.

I just didn't think two servos would pull near 3A to bring the ESC to cooking temp.

I picked up the Castle Creations BEC 2.0 tuned to 6v and a two servo BEC bypass cable.

Thanks

It's not just the amperage but also dc to dc voltage conversion. It's alot to ask of an esc for crawler duties.

Good to know. The last time I had an R/C car was about 7 years ago, on-road nitro HPI, getting it started was the only thing I had to worry about. Before that, a Super Blackfoot in the early 90's. A lot has changed.

I'll post on the turn out once everything gets here and I get it together later this week.

Thanks Guys!

No problem we all started somewhere. Think of the bec as the battery pack from the nitro's to run the rx and servo's.

Some esc's shouldn't even have internal bec's but I digress...

I agree with you on the RX/Servo battery. On the Electric rigs I played with I always had a RX battery, I was shocked when I heard I didn't need it anymore. Not surprised you guys are telling me I need it again

CC-BEC 2.0 installed with HH Dual Servo Bypass Cable. Freeeeeekin' awesome.

Total difference in servo performance and didn't have to splice and pull the red wire on the ESC. Back in business in a good way. Much appreciated on the guidance!

Hopefully I'll get another shakedown run in the park this weekend to see how the battery performance holds up. Running a 2S 5000mah Lipo so I chould get a good long run in.
