No, but you can replace the 8 AAs with a 3s life pack.

Yes and no. Most 8-cell radios are 5v circuit boards and use a wasteful linear regulator (aka BEC). The problem is battery alarms look at the pre-regulator voltage. In the case of hacked GT3's, you can change adjust the battery alarm voltage and use lower voltage (1-1.5v above board voltage). In other radios it will just keep warning you low battery. You could even run it off a single cell by using a boost regulator - I use a few for 12v LED lights. The best bet is just changing its onboard linear regulator with a switch-mode regulator. You'd go from 30-50% efficiency to 85-95%, doubling battery life. GT3 guys usually use an overpriced monolithic reg, but any BEC will work if it's output is what your board uses. |
