| Castle Green vs Slate motors
What is the actual difference here? is a 2200kv green the same as a slate? If there is a difference how great is it? I have the opportunity to get a mamba x with a green motor and am curious how it would perform crawling.

Slate comes in 4 motor combos 3800, 2850, 2280, 1900kv ive had the 3800 and the 2850 and theyre made for more low end torque these slate motors were made specifically for crawlers. They are amazing motors and fairly inexpensive compared to everything else but the mamba x is they ticket that esc is amazing Sent from my LG-M703 using Tapatalk

The green cans are unsensored, you need sensored brushless for good slow speed staring. I run the big 2650 on my slash4x4, it’s a rocket, not a Crawler Hang up and Drive |

Dont think they make an unsensored in that low a kv in a 1400 series...Is it a 1500 series sensored motor? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk |

I haven't had this confirmed by castle, but this is my understanding. The green can does not have "relatively" smooth crawler startup for a crawler, it is tuned for power output. The slate has a changed rotor to smooth startup and sacrifices a little punchiness to power delivery. Won't hurt to try the system, no doubt. Make your own judgement on how it feels. If you are looking at a 2200kv green motor, it is a 1/8th scale motor, not a 1/10. 1/10th scale motors: Slate 1406 Can: 1900kv, 2280kv, 2850kv, and 3800kv Green 1406 Can: 4600kv, 5700kv, 6900kv, and 7700kv Green 1410 Can: 3800kv Green 1415 Can: 2400kv 1/8th scale motors: Green 1512 Can: 1800kv and 2650kv Green 1515 Can: 2200kv All of these are available with sensors. The green can motors used to all be available sensorless, so if buying used, it is something to watch out for. The sensorless motors have 3 different wires colors that come out of the motor at a 90 degree angle, where the sensored motors have black wires that are soldered on to tabs on the side of the motor and run along the side. That is the easiest way to visually distinguish the two. There really isn't a lot of changes to the slate motors over the green motors to make them crawler specific other than the lower KV. I could be mistaken, but I think they all use the same rotor as the 4600kv with different winds and stator lengths to achieve the desired KV. Most of the magic comes from the Mamba 2.0x software. |

I called in to get some further clarification and they told me that the slate motors have a slightly different sized magnet compared to the green motors. He basically told me it would only be noticeable at very low speeds.
