Default TQ radio rocker switch to wheel conversion?

Years ago I modded a traxxas tq3 radio where I replaced the red rocker switch with a spare potentiometer and steering wheel off a parts radio I had laying around (for the purpose of rear steer). Recently I've decided I'd like to replicate the same thing on a relatively inexpensive radio so I figured the 3 channel version of traxxas tq would be perfect. The problem I've run into after converting the switches is that the 3rd channel servo only powers up and shuts down when attempting to steer. After digging into this a bit more it sounds like the 3rd channel on that radio is only a 2 position switch. My question is there anyway to convert it so it will accept the wheel switch?

I'm not aware of a way to convert the third channel into a linear channel.

This might help you get usable 4 wheel steering even though you have a two-position channel to work with:
4 Wheel Steering Controller - controlled by a two position third channel

Thanks for the info but I've become spoiled over the years and must have a fully independent and positional rear steer. The rear wheel with a return to center spring removed was amazing just got to figure out if the tq is a lost cause which other radio could take it's place.

Makes sense to me!
I think (but I don't know for sure) that transmitter's firmware is making the channel operate in two positions only and won't let you do linear.

Many years ago I changed the two position rocker switch to a three position switch. Center had the rear wheels centered, up turned one way and down the other. I had two or three trim pots as well to control end point adjustments. It worked beautifully. I wish I could remember the details. But it’s possible to have three positions at least...
