Default Buying PM470 or Reefs 444????

I'm looking at the promodeler 470 and the reefs 444 servo. Not sure which one I want to buy yet. Price is the same. Promodeler is a local to me company. Yes the 470 has a little more torque, but the reefs is waterproof. At those torque numbers I don't see there being that much of a noticable difference. To get those numbers the pm needs 7.4/8.4v where the reefs has good power at 6 & 7.4v. Which would you buy and why??? Help me decide guys.

PM all day everyday price being equal. I believe the owner has explained here it is also coated just not advertised as waterproof. The reefs are relatively new kid on the block, where as the PM has been backed and backed well. Personally, between the two, I'm going PM.

ProModeler for sure. I've already read nightmares about Reefs servos and customer service.

I’ve heard from a couple locals that had problems with relatively new reefs, and the PM just specs out so nice. The o rings everywhere, including under the screws, shows the type of quality that they are after. Hope to have one myself at some point.

Your post sounds like you are biased to the Reef's, but go ProModeler. The owner is great and takes care of his customers, and the quality is top notch. The fact that he's local to you is icing on the cake.

Definitely more leaning towards promodeler. Only reason I questioned the Reefs is cause a few people had pointed me that direction. I've over researched servos in the past and always wanted a PM470. Price, power & support is a great selling point. Reefs was brand new when I did that research and I didn't even look at their stuff till now. I spoke to John a few months back. He's a great dude and very helpful. Just wanted some reassurance on my decision. I see a shiney silver pm470 in my future :-) thank you guys for your thoughts and help.

Just to add the rebuild kits for Promodelers are close to half the price of a new servo and they do say you should run them straight off of a 2S battery cause they claim all BEC's have garbage signals.

All that said I'd probably go for the Promodeler too so long as its a 1.9 rig and not a 2.2. Dont worry about using a BEC, its totally fine with one IMHO. Oh and you really should have no need to rebuild your servo unless you do something careless like not set end points and check clearances (my brother managed to strip the gears on his Promodeler because of that) but if you have a look at the gears inside they are 100% pure grade A beef so it really shouldn't be a concern.

No question about it, promodler every single time. Reefs are junk.

Another recommend for the PM 470, I use it in my bomber with effective 700oz@16mm on 7.4v (440oz-in, I don't use a 25.4mm horn, and neither do you, formula is (25.4/r)*t=actual torque. r = the distance between spline and link, t = rated oz-in).

Ive got two ProModelers, a 420 and a 470.
I actually took the older 420 for use in my VS4 build, It doesn't stop, so smooth and strong, the 470 is in my Bullyll with massive front weight and grip.

Reefs? new kid, they get VERY defensive on Farcebeek...... but never seem to tell the build and design story. ProModeler does, and when you look, you wont ever buy any other in that price/specs .

What's his name that started reefs did an interview with Adam Van Ord on bookface a year or so ago. Basically he owns an import business and got into rc and his buddies asked him why he wasn't importing rc parts. He used his Chinese contacts to start importing stuff under the reefs name.

That would explain why I can’t get design history or anything but ........

I wish I needed a BIG boy, but I can’t break the 2290, so can’t justify the new 630.

I have a Pro Modeler 420 and the only problem i've had is a bearing seized on the output spline, replaced it and greased and it has been trouble free so far. The best servo experience has been a Spektrum S6280 that i've had for 4 years and has been submerged and abused innumerable times and just recently failed. Bought a new set of gears and a cover and still works great

Another vote for the Promodeler 470. Bought one for my Ascender and haven’t looked back. I even burnt it up....oops and John warrantied it for me no problem. Great servo, awesome customer service. Wanting the new 630 also!

I never understood how they hype train for those things started. A completely new brand pops up out of nowhere and before the servos were even out, people were saying they were the best ever.

I'll eventually try a ProModeler. Just haven't been motivated to try anything else since I discovered the 2290s.

1. Because people are gullible and stupid and will believe hype and they'll spread it with little to no knowledge.
2. These new brands give free servos to some big mouths on Facebook and they spread it like a disease with all their stupid hashtags.
